Happy Chick aka Harriet says:probably because we looked too!
I want these amazonite black tourmaline rondelles….have to save money for my trip. Must not overspend now. I will keep repeating this.

Happy Chick aka Harriet says:Mary, Smoky Rose, did I miss the part where you said how you were able to change your name here?

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I’m sorry – I ordered over the weekend. Expect my package tomorrow! Mother’s Day has been good to me (sales)
Love this pick. Intrigued by the cuprite – reminds me of the the blue opal, only less expensive.

You go girl!! If that lets you buy more beads…YAY!!! Happy for ya!

Fashion Chick aka SC says:Gems Chick,
How do you sell your jewelry? Home shows or website? I’m somewhat new to the business part of beading and just trying to get ideas. I hope you don’t mind my asking.
On May 05, 2009 at 7:22 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:No problem – so far I’ve just brought it in to work. I set it up on boards and leave it in the teacher’s room. Co-workers have even approached me between my “shows” requesting special pieces. I’ve been thinking about craft fairs and maybe consignment.
On May 05, 2009 at 7:26 pm #
Fashion Chick aka SC says:Thanks for responding. I’m glad you’re enjoying success with your art and wish you all the best!!
On May 05, 2009 at 7:27 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:The sales started quite by accident. Everyone would compliment my jewelry and tell me I should sell it. so a few weeks before Christmas, I took the plunge.
On May 05, 2009 at 7:35 pm #
Fashion Chick aka SC says:Your scenario is similar to mine. I started to wear more of my pieces and people began asking if I was going to sell my jewelry. It took some time for me to build up my confidence before I did it. I’m starting to bead again and would like to sell it so this is where I stand so far. There is a lot of inspiration on this site as well as creativity so I’m trying to stay tuned. I really appreciate all the picks and encouragement!
On May 05, 2009 at 7:46 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:Good luck with it. The compliments really are an ego boost. It’s pretty cool to see my jewelry all over school! But I do want to find other outlets for sales. I agree with you about this site. It’s been so inspirational.

Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:Jeanne, you work @ a school? A teacher? I’m a library aide, (books don’t talk back!) and have had similar things happen. Just haven’t had the nerve to “set up shop” yet. But yesterday my daughter wore her nest necklace & her teachers from this & last year both were complimenting it today.
nice ego boost! I want to try some earrings with tiny pearls.
On May 05, 2009 at 9:50 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I teach first grade. Wish we had library aides. And you’d be amazed at how much 6-7 year olds talk back at this time of year!
I make a point of setting up before our day officially starts and breaking down after the buses leave. So far the principal hasn’t said anything. I figure I’m providing a service -lol
On May 05, 2009 at 9:57 pm #
Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:Chasing you now, Jeanne! My daughter is in 2nd, and I know how bad they can be! We have 2 classes of each grade PreK – 6th, and both classes of 2nd grade have their share of “interesting” kids!
Our principal is new last year, and I haven’t gotten the nerve to ask. I don’t think I want to just presume. Space is at a premium any more.
On May 05, 2009 at 10:04 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I didn’t ask.
A teacher in our intermediate school got nervous when the district superintendent asked about her jewelry, which was set up in the main office. He just wanted to buy something.
2nd grade can be tough – the kids don’t know how they’re supposed to act.
On May 05, 2009 at 10:17 pm #
Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:My sister taught 1st grade, and loved it. But she gave it up after her 2nd child was born. She didn’t like paying someone else to take care of her kids, while she raised a class full of other peoples’ kids.
Being at school more has surely opened my eyes! It’s NOT easy to teach!
On May 05, 2009 at 10:22 pm #
Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I don’t blame her. I was lucky. I loved my year of leave, but wasn’t the stay at home type 17 years ago. Had a great sitter for a while. but then when my daughter was in 2nd gr. my husband ran a home based day care for a few years.
Thanks for the respect for teachers!
On May 05, 2009 at 10:49 pm #
Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:Oops, lost my reply! You & your daughter are lucky to have an involved dad! It makes a big difference!
Teachers – way undervalued. Spend a day in a classroom & you really gain a different perspective!
Back to the Pick – I was almost tempted today, BGBM AND Lunch Special Rhodochrosite aaagghh!!! I shouldn’t have looked!
