I stopped too, movie chick. since 911, I have been a complete news freak! everything I could get my paws on! last couple months, I’m taking the Andrew Weil approach, for the most part, that is to take loooong new breaks. It is too depressing otherwise….. especially now with the economy…not gonna get started. Glad your weather should be safe there.

Smoky – Hi fellow news junkie! I have taked a hiatus from the news in the last two weeks or so – go to the point where I couldn’t tear myself away from CNN – Swine Flu thing pulled me back in…It can be very burdensome, though…

Movie Chick, I really like your pick – Smoky’s right – the Bloodstone with the Crazy Lace Agate is very interesting – And the touches of red in the Bloodstone allow for the Brecciated Jasper to play as well!
    Very nice…:)

  21. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

I’m embarassed to tell you that I don’t even know what’s going on with the swine flu – heard small tid-bits, don’t go to mexico, nyc is concerned – there’s everything I know. I would imagine life will all be a flutter about it when I get back to work tomorrow – you know, we’ve been working on bird flu directives for two years now…..which is borderline madness, since we don’t know how to treat it…. I wonder if I upset Tucky, Shannon. I was trying to show her that her fluorite/pearl piece had so much more life to it than mine – and then folks were complimenting me…. then we didn’t hear from her. I really must sometimes shut up……. :(

  22. Shannon aka Silly Chick
    Shannon aka Silly Chick says:

No, I don’t think you said anything offensive! I am concerned that we’re not hearing from her and her picks sort of say, ‘I’m sad’…I want to make it all better if something is amiss…I thought a chickie name would perk her up -

    ChickyD aka Debra says:

I’m an NPR junkie, myself. We had a lot of rain (I live north of Austin) and a tornado watch from early morning until right after lunch. Just rain and thunder, thank God! Went to Austin after school for a beading class. The sun was shining by 6:00. YAY!

I like NPR – for a lot of reasons, but right now at this point in my life, because it is quiet – its not the in your face stuff – glad all you had was rain!

Thanks, Smoky Chick! I have expecially been thinking of you. Are you the ADDer? Between that and my memory issues, I’m just always happy to make it through my day!

  37. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

Thanks, Plucky Chick!!!! that is I – the depressed, ADD’r…… I’m doing ok, thank you. Single Chick gave me some hope tonight – a friend of hers was recently started on same/similar medication – within 5 weeks or so, saw/felt improvement. so…. couple more weeks to go and I may be upward bound. She’s going to ask her friend some details for me.

  38. No Photo
    RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:

I hope I wasn’t being too forward. I started medication over 10 years ago, so I guess what I wanted to give you is support and encouragement!! There are sooo many ways in addition to medication that help, little tricks to stay on task, setting alarms, etc. Have you read “Driven to Distraction”?

  39. Shannon aka Silly Chick
    Shannon aka Silly Chick says:

I like Peachy Chick, too! When Funny Chick gets on, would someone bounce it off her…Does everyone think that sounds ok?

Hi Plucky Chick! How U B?

  40. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

not remotely, dear Plucky. for real, you too?! may I ask, how’d you find out? I guess that’s the weird thing. I always knew I was ‘different’ – in hindsight, so much makes sense now, but how the heck did it go unnoticed all this time? I’m a little mad…… medicine helps…. ritalin? I haven’t read that – I’ll make a note of it, thank you! I feel like… my head is going to spin off my neck some days. I can’t stop thinking – about what? often nothing important, I just cannot turn it off – short term memory loss – disorganization. I hate this part of me. I envy ‘normal’ people sooo much. Is this how it was for you?

  41. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

it is like, I suppose things others experience, but sooo hyper-focused – everything is hyper-focused. it can be madening the attention to detail, etc.

  42. No Photo
    RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:

Yes, I diagnosed myself after reading the book, went to see someone, got medicine and it helped! I also started conscientiously (had to look that word up) doing a lot of self-acceptance, work with what you got, recognizing your limitations. Hemming a dress is like torture for me, but I found if I restricted myself to only sewing 6 inches at a time and setting a timer so I would get back to it, I could finish the job. Like finishing a beading project, only allow yourself to work on it for 10 minutes, then you have to stop. It’s wierd, but it works. Little tips are everywhere, and you have to find what is difficult for you, accept it, then work for little ways to get it done.

  43. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

may I ask – you need not respond, if you are not comfortable – depression a factor for you?

  44. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

you know, thing is – I’m not a whiner. I’ve had some ups & downs in life – always landed on my feet. Most folks have no clue – at least in terms of naming names to my ‘behavior’ – they see it, I’m sure – I hear you re: acceptance. I accept ‘me’, I just haven’t yet accepted this part of me. I think of how much more I may have accomplished, etc and right now, I’m still just mad that nobody saw it – that I’ve been a major chemistry experiment my entire adult life and despite that, sit here still – miserable… I just don’t get it yet.

  45. No Photo
    RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:

I hear you, but you have to realize that young girls are still not being diagnosed. In fact, everyone thought kids outgrew it when in truth, they were just adults learning to cope with it by suffering through it. Result? Depression, substance abuse, etc. Many adults are diagnosed when they take their kids in for treatment.

  46. No Photo
    RubberT aka Plucky Chick says:

Oh, I just read your second part. Yes, depression is a major factor.

  47. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

Thank you, Plucky. I appreciate you sharing.
I am going to crash for one night though – I am pooped.
Thank you again – we’ll talk some more, I hope!?!
    G’night.

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:

Mary, Becky – I can tell that you ladies have so much going for you just by listening to you talk. My brother was on ritalin in the 60′s before anyone knew about ADD. He had so many other issues – OCD, ODD, alchohlism, drugs, very smart but couldn’t stick with school or a job. My parents were huge enablers, supported him financially and put up with his abuse. It wasn’t until my mother passed away in November that he had to stand on his own 2 feet at age 54. (Dad’s been gone 2 years) And yes depression was a huge factor. He started meds for funeral and they still help. He considers himself to be a survivor. He struggles financially, but he has his dog and I think he’s proud to finally be doing it on his own.
So hang in there, sounds like you’re doing great. I’m glad you’ve found each other. It’s so wonderful to have a support group.

  50. Smoky Rose
    Smoky Rose says:

thanks for sharing that, Jeanne. It’s weird, looking back, I can see where it has always been there – but of late, it is different – I know know if it is because of other chem changes in my body – peri-m?, (my mom, aunt, and cuz were all very young for their change and I’m starting to see changes there) or what – but, if anything, the ADD me a super employee – perhaps unlike the stereotype that job jumps, I’ve been at the same employer, up the ladder, for 18 years! I’m a good employee, if I do say so myself – not afraid of hard work or of challenging myself – but of late, I am the worst, the worst! at a time when we all ought to be on top of our game – I daydream, I play on LB – I’m just slow and procrastinate – I’ve had these behaviors at home forever, but always put on my good face for work. I’ve got to pull it together before financial year end – got to – it is a super busy, super demanding time of year – and at the rate I’m going………… I’m scared.
