Aaaawwwww … Smart Chick this is so very, very true, and so lovely. I wish I still had my kitties to curl up with. Hoagy used to love curling up behind my knees or draping himself over my legs, and Betty Davis would lay on my feet. I miss them, but this pick is a lovely reminder of them.

    Hey everyone,

glad you like this, Anita’s “Soothing” pick inspired this one :)
CAS, love the names your kitties had, Hoagy and Betty Davis :) … kitties need “picturesque” names that reflect their funny personalities eh?

Hey Joyce! I fully agree that kitties should always have “picturesque” names. Betty Davis was so named because she had the biggest, brightest golden eyes I’d ever seen (I know Betty Davis’s eyes were blue, but my Betty’s eyes made me think of the song “Betty Davis eyes” by Kim Carnes”). Hoagy was named for Hoagy Carmichael the composer of “stardust”, “lazy river”, “Georgia on my mind” and “skylark” to name a few of his songs. My Hoagy was black & white and made me think of the composer sitting in tie & tails at the piano. My other kitty was Humphrey Bogart, he was a tough kitty with a throughly mushy center.

I had Michelle – pronounced Mee-shell. She was a long, lanky, Siamese. Looked like she was full of attitude, walked like a NY model – but a sweetheart.

We lost him a little over a year ago, he was 14 years old. His favorite places where Michaels chair and my grandpiano.

Ohhhhh. I just love cats. Your Olik was a beautiful cat!!! They all have their own personalities. My husband and I lost a cat about 5 years ago. She was 13 years old. She was a beautiful white cat. Putting her to sleep was 0ne of the most difficult things we have ever experienced together. We cried so hard. It took us a little while before we got another kitty. We reminice about her often.

    Julia,

thanks so much for sharing these pics of Olik, I can see from these how special a kitty he was, what a handsome and sweet kitty.

Names of kitties are important – my first one was named “sweetpea (kitty stew) after a family cat with that name :) , she was a lovely tortoiseshell and was “boss kitty”, she “talked” (meowed) with me back and forth… then I had a little black and white “sylvester” type kitty, she was my first “Little One”, sweet and shy. After her I got my second “Little One” who became “Tiny Miss” because she was the runt of the litter and a female kitty :) , she was always kinda shy but playful, I do miss mine, they were lots of fun and good company too.
Jewelsby Jill, thanks for sharing about losing your cat a few years ago, it’s always painful to have to let a pet go like that even when it’s necessary. Glad to hear that you both have another, I’m waiting to get another since I’m in school and not home much, between working on campus and going to school.

the kitties are all beautiful = i’ve seldom seen an un-beautiful kitty – from my siamese tomcat “viscious”(25 lbs of fighting tom – yes he was neutered) to my “black shadow” (born in my closet, died 5 years ago, age 25 years). i now have “midnight” unfortunately we can only visit – i’m in a nursing home and she has to live with my daughter. i miss my cuddles.

i hadn’t seen these designs. cat chasing birds in a necklace anyone? i’ll drop a picture when it’s done.
