I’m glad it might help people you know.

I wasn’t sure to post it, since not ’bead’ related.

It has to do with identity theft and whereby birth certificates were actually stolen.

Apparently, schools and such would keep them on file. That is now illegal, too, with the new law.

The honest…are paying for the dishonesty of others.

At least it is only $5 for a new one. That is not too bad.

And no fee, if 60 or over; or a veteran.

But, everyone with previously issued birth certificates must get one. There is no exemption to get one, only no fee for certain people (the age or the vets).

But, check the state department website for more detail, as one source. Or, Homeland Security.

I saw an article on the computer, which was an Associated Press article. Did see part of the article in our newspaper a few days ago, too.

But, if even thinking of traveling in July or afterwards, better to request one ASAP.

Who knows what rush and backlog this might cause.

But, got to get new ones.

Thank you for that info, Carola. I heard about this just yesterday. Thankfully, my husband was born here in NY but the rest of his family was born in Puerto Rico so I guess they will have to apply for the new birth certificates. It’s kinda crazy if you ask me!
