@ Kathryntaylor77. You don’t use a 27′ cord. it looks that way in the instructions but you are to use 2 (two) 7inch pieces and 1 (one) 15 inch piece.

2 – 7inch pieces 1 – 15 inch piece

Then follow step 1 and it should make sense then. Hope this helps.
