26 gauge sterling silver. You can also use 26 gauge artistic wire which is much less expensive. No, it did not hurt my hands. Take a look at this link to see how it’s done:

This necklace is a perfect example of why I like beading. This is so unique. I love how each beader pulls from their own uniqueness and creates. Very nice.
