Subtle and Scary Fresh PicksPosted by Ali on October 06 at 04:03 pm
It appears as though music and food have played a big part in the inspiration for the favorite Fresh Picks and their titles this week.
I can tell that the upcoming holiday is on the minds of the Lima Fresh Pickers with titles like Halloween Party, Masked Ball, Black Cat, BOO!, Hallow’s Eve, Candy Corn, Midnight Mistress and Samhain. These all offer great ideas for combinations of beads – possibly incorporating items you wouldn’t normally choose, but it’s OK – it’s Halloween I think that most of these would be great to make into pieces to be worn year round. Holidays give us great inspiration for jewelry designs.
This week’s Top 10 is a bit of a surprise to me. Not because the picks aren’t fabulous – because they are – but because of the colors and subtleness of the arrangements. There is something very calm about this week’s top picks.
This week’s top 10:
- Jazz at the Blue Note by Cuban Queen
- Spinner’s Lace by Sandy S
- Snow White by Perlemamma
- Vanilla Bean from Lima’s Picks
- Raindrops on Roses by Katrina A
- Gypsy Winds by Steph
- Birds of a Feather from Lima’s Picks
- Calmed Passions by Lily A
- Gothic by Perlemamma
- Black Cherry Tree by Kitty
Jazz at the Blue Note – I love Cuban Queen’s picks – great themes!
This pick is great. I am crazy for lapis right now and love how it works with the different pearls and shell. The touch of black onyx hits the note just right. The diagonal drilled cubes are so much fun . . . the play back and forth of the beads is just like music.
Spinner’s Lace – Soft colors of lace with the beautiful Botswana agate and porcelain jasper patterns. The natural lavender quartz and kunzite add an unexpected coziness to this pick. Love the splash of bronzite for some chocolaty sparkle! When I look at this pick I feel like taking a nice deep breath and relaxing.
Snow White – This is how I imagine Snow White – not with the blue and red and black. This is not your typical pink and purple combo. I like the use of the same color with different qualities: hematite, hypersthene, and lava rock — pink mother of pearl, rhodochrosite, and rose quartz. I love the lava rock in all its roughness mixed with the soft shades of porcelain jasper. This pick just goes to show that it doesn’t take a million colors to make an interesting pick while at the same time not being too obvious.
What does everyone think? Which ones were your favorites?
