Fresh Pick: “Eggs to Dye For”

Posted by limabeads on March 28 at 09:42 am

This Fresh Pick was designed by puppychick labratbecky on Mar. 27, 2014.

puppychick labratbecky says: I see natural egg dyes in these colors. It doesn't hurt that the blue-green quartz has so many dazzling colors all by itself. They all remind me of the eggs laid by my grandfather's (Henry's) many breeds of chickens. He raised them as a hobby and to feed his family. Henry was Aggie's husband. :) Aggie took those multihued eggs. She dyed a few with natural food colorings and just boiled the rest. They were so colorful there was no need to add a thing. Now I have a co-worker whom I have known for years who has taken up chicken husbandry in his semi-retirement. He brings eggs in to work and I am seeing Aggie and Henry's eggs all over again. :) How cool is that?!?

I love it! The blue-green quartz is stunning! I didn’t know that chicken eggs came in different colors other than beige and white (other than bird eggs). Guess that proves I’m a city slicker for sure. :)

Thanks Gina and Judy!! Chickens that are the fancy breads and even some good old fashioned egg layers can produce eggs in blues and greens as well as shades of oranges, salmon, tans, browns, cream and white! They are too pretty to eat! :)
