Pure Love Kiddie Necklace

I love seeing kids express themselves with jewelry. My twin toddler nephews each wear a necklace I made out of leather cord and a couple small lake rocks. Payton wears a plethora of necklaces she has made with me, and I have made for her. The easiest type of necklace for a kid to wear seems to be one that has a simple pendant strung on a cool stringing material. For the "pure love" pendant, which is so perfect and sweet, I chose Hawaiian Rainbow sewn edge silk ribbon. This could be finished with the child being able to tie a bow or knot every time it's worn or a knot could be tied in such a place that the necklace easily slides on and off their head.

I love Green Girl Studio pieces. Their designs are so whimsical, playful and natural making them a perfect fit for making children's gifts (see the products to purchase below for more ideas on Green Girl Studios focals you could use).

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 1 32" length sewn edge silk ribbon (2mm leather cord works great too, but you might need a bit more than you do in the ribbon)
  • 1 sweet Green Girl Studios pendant/charm
  • accent bead (lamp work teardrops work great sliding onto the ribbon easily)

Helpful Hints:

Step 1

To attach the focal and keep from moving around, I like to make an overhand loop knot at the top of the focal after stringing it on the ribbon. Then I added on one accent bead and some knots along each side of the ribbon for a little something extra, rather than stringing on a lot of beads.
