10 Bucks to a Cowboy

About this design:

If you saw my display post of Blossom Festival, you'll remember me saying that a young cowboy picked this out for his mom on mother's day - only, he misread the price! Just couldn't part with it for $10!

Components:

peridot 26 ga wire for viking knit, handmade dichroic pendant wrapped in silver plate square wire

Cowboy’s don’t always “understand” decimal points, either that or they are always in the horse trading mode. Hey, trying to get the price down are a normal process, but I’ve found that you have to stand by your pricing, otherwise you are not earning a living as some of us are trying to do, but instead just making enough money to support a hobby. People do NOT realize how much actually goes into making a piece of jewelry, especially when you factor in the cost of being at a show/festival…cost of materials, time to produce the piece, other overhead, booth rental, increase in utilities, marketing (for a lot of us), vendor’s licenses, increased income taxes for self employment, etc., etc. Beautiful piece and keep up the great work.

I appreciate all your comments! :D

TG Karen, VK is repetitive, but well worth the effort! I took a class, because I do better with live visual instruction (I couldn’t follow it well in the book I had). Some people try it, but don’t find it worth their time. But, you have to give it a shot!

Craig, I agree with you 100%! I have been frustrated more than once by customers who don’t understand how much time and money goes into each piece, and, as you said, booth rentals, marketing, and those lovely self employment income taxes! Apparently, we are expected by the public to ‘donate’ our time…I’ve often been tempted to ask someone if they would go to work for free….
