About this design:
Lenda da Gralha Azul or The Blue Crow is a mythical giant bird from Southern Brazil that supposedly travels throughout the southern region of the country.
Components:
These earrings were created from blue wooden crow beads and 20G copper wire. The beads are very light, so I used 5 per earring to get that jungle babe look.Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: I started by making wire spiral headpins (spiral the wire and then tap the spiral with a hammer to harden), add the crow bead and finish with a wrapped loop. Repeat until you have 10. |
Step 2: To assemble each earring, cut about 4 inch pieces of wire and using the Rosary pliers make a medium-large loop. Open the loop gently and slip in three of the crow beads – 2 spirals should go 1 direction and the third the other direction). Pinch the loop closed, place it back on the Rosary pliers and finish the wrapped loop. Repeat for second earring. Now use the Rosary pliers to make a second loop (as close to the same size as possible) just above the first loop. Gently open the loop and add 2 crow bead drops with the spirals going in opposite directions. Gently pinch the loop closed and make a wrapped loop so that the wraps will meet up with the wraps from the bottom loop. |
Step 3: Make the earwires by cutting 4 inch pieces of 20G copper wire. Working with both pieces together, make simple loops at one end of the wire – check to make sure that both wires and loops are a close as possible. Place on the bench block and tap with a hammer. Line up both wires and wrap them the opposite direction around a 1 inch object (I used a superglue bottle) to form a loop, then use your fingers to gently bend back a ¼ inch tail. Check to make sure that both wires are a close a possible, then place on the bench block and tap with a hammer to harden. Hold together to check again and then use a nail board to file off any sharp edges or burs. Use the flat pliers to gently open the loops and add the crow bead drops. |
