Leather & Pewter

About this design:

Commissioned bracelet for a friend. First time working with 3mm leather cord posed some challenges. Cord was thick enough to make holes in the ends and wire them. We were both happy with the outcome.

Components:

3mm natural dyed leather cord, antique silver pewter beads and findings, Bali silver charm, silver findings, antique silver clasp, silvered glass, titanium colored wire, chain

I LOVE it! Question though…you said you made holes in the ends and wired them. Can you describe what you did, and also, did you feel confident that the holes in the ends would not tear? I love the design!

    Good question E. Carpenter!
I was wondering about that too. :-)

Thanks E. Carpenter! I hammered the point of a small awl through the leather cord about 1/8″ in from the end. It made a very small hole, just large enough for the 24 gauge wire to thread through. The 3mm leather cord is thick enough to probably not tear with normal wearing.

Thanks Kimmie! my original idea was to wire wrap the ends of the leather together but then it became too thick for the cones, so i came up with this idea, plan B :)

Thanks for sharing the idea about poking a hole through the leather – especially on this width, I’d be afraid that wrapping wouldn’t be secure enough!
