When I first saw this I almost asked if you did lampwork beads! Boulder opal is a fav – opal is my birthstone as well so I am partial to it – I have never seen an opal with this many colors and so much fire! I can just imagine the price tag on this one

  15. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Did you check out either of the other angles, 3_Jewels- 3_Chick? It has an asian look/ feel from some angles.

  16. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Right, Leigh D. And did I mention that the stone alone is almost 34 cts? Plus this black matrix is more desirable and makes it more valuable.

    It is absolutely dead gorgeous!!
I thought it is fire opal. I seen one not quite that striking but gorgeous too in similar colors while in Sedona. It was in one of the galleries there but my husband did not let me buy it (:

It was $360. . I was standing looking at it for about an hour…lol

How about “God’s Lighting Rod” ?

This has to be the most beautiful stone I have ever seen! The simple wirework sets it off perfectly…it really allows the opal to be the star of this peice. Gorgeous!

    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Thanks, Julia. That is your name, right? And thank you for the interesting name, suggestion. Any experts out there care to guess a price on this way cool stone? Remember, it’s not only amazing – it’s huge ;)

WOW!!!! I’ve never seen anything quite like it! It also reminds me of stained glass windows in church. I love what you’re doing with it!

  24. Aqua Chickie Cat

Thanks Chickie D. (I think it looks a bit like stained glass, too.)

  25. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

I don’t think anyone would dare to guess. It sounds like it might be priceless. Debra and Aqua Chickie made me think that you might call it “Stained Glass Window”.

  26. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it is priceless, but I’ll have to assign it a price (and a name!) before I can sell it;)

  27. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

Where did you ever find such a gorgeous stone??? I had a Murano glass pendant given to me the other day and I just love it. It has so many colours in it, like mauve, gold, silver, black, copper, etc. Now I have to decide what I’m going to do with it.

  28. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

What? You don’t believe that I mined it myself? ;)

  29. Kathryn Lobert
    Kathryn Lobert says:

Well, I have freely admitted that I am terrible at creating names – all I can think when I look at this incredible bead is “WOW”. Then as I stared at it, it started reminding me of the magical forest behind Hogwarts School in Harry Potter. It does have such a magical and whimsical quality about it:)

  30. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

Sure, Aqua Chickie, sure. Just tell us where. LOL

  31. Fashion Chick aka SC
    Fashion Chick aka SC says:

    It’s awesome!

  32. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

BTW, a dumb question. Why do you call it an 8-way pendant???

  33. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Opals do have a “magical” quality, don’t they? I am not familiar with the specific reference you’ve made, but I could see this as a kind of forest. Funny, but snakes were what this brought to mind when I was doing the wire work. I think it might be a Fire Dragon, of some sort

  34. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

    Queensland Australia. No noodling 3_Jewels-3_Chick!

  35. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

Aha, from the snake pits of Western Canada. LOL

  36. Kathryn Lobert
    Kathryn Lobert says:

Ohhh – I do like the fire dragon thought!!

  37. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Not dumb, but a good question about the 8 ways. The pendant has awesome designs on 3 sides, (though mainly 2), and can be worn horizontally with 1 side or the other (2 ways); vertically with side 1, end A up (3rd); side 1 end B up (4th); Side 2 end A up (5th); Side 2 end B up (6th); Side 3 horizontally (7th); vertically Side 3, end A up (8th). (Somehow Vert. Side three End B, looks upside down.)

  38. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

    Thanks Fashion Chick.

  39. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Hmmm…but what kind is our fire dragon?

  40. KPJEWELS
    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks for the explanation Aqua Chickie. Hope you’ll post a picture when you decide what you are going to do with it. No matter what you decide, it will be fabulous with that pendant. Night chickies and all, guess I’ll get some shuteye.

  41. Aqua Chickie Cat

    Cotopaxi Chickie Sue says:

I’m sure this stone is absolutely priceless! I had a hard time following the postings, ACC, but am I to understand it is an australian opal?

It does kind of look like snakes – which makes me think of Medusa. so, I’ve given you another name to think about! LOL!

  43. AllureofGemsGlamJulia
    AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:

The price of the opal ofcause depends on the rarity of design, size and work done to it.
If you to go to the Opal Auctions where Australian boulder opals are sold and look through
You may find similar opals , in different sizes. etc. I seen one very similar in beauty but only 2.12 ct for $515. and another one for $312. but who knows how high they will go by the end of auction. At the same time I seen a very beautiful one at 19ct for $38, but not like yours of cause…

  44. AllureofGemsGlamJulia
    AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:

BTW: I have a friend who has an opal brooch , 40ct priced at $5,000. She got it as a gift from the a friend (post mortum).

Whoa. Is that stone completely natural, not color-enhanced in any way? Amazing. I can only imagine how much that beauty must cost. How about the name “8 Way Matrix”? Or “Matrix 8″? Good luck! :)

    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

Julia, what opal auctions did you have in mind? I’ve heard that boulder opal, in general, ranges in price from $100 to $400 per carat, but that some matrix opals can go for $1,000 plus, per carat. Of course this is now a finished piece, not simply a stone (and I’d like to build a name for myself as a designer of high end pieces – not under the name Aqua Chickie Cat ;) ).

  62. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

    That is kinda scary, Cookie….

This is a beautiful stone. I love opal too! I would at least sell it for what you purchased it for plus your labor and material. When I first looked at it, it reminded me of the psychedelic films in the back of some of the 60′s and 70′s bands. It’s a crazy stone!

  65. AllureofGemsGlamJulia

I do hope you are not going to be Aqua Chickie Cat Jewelry Designer, he-he…
The action name is “Opal Auctions”, but!!!!!!!!,
if you would like to be entertained by seeing heart breaking beauties ranging from $35 and going into $59,000-$65,000 go to Aussie Treasure Chest ( Black Opals) And how I understand yours belong to that group ( black opals it is…)

  66. Happy Chick aka Harriet

I agree with all of the “gorgeous”comments. Thirty years ago, I lived in Australia and have a dozen pieces of similar matrix opal (only one side cut…maybe they didn’t know how to cut it then) about 35x20mm each. It was the only type of opal to survive the dry climate in Alberta.
A friend says your stone looks like a “Gustav Klimpt” painting.

Aqua Chickie, you do know that water should not touch the opal ? It can ruin it. Like raw silk garment…

  74. Aqua Chickie Cat
    Aqua Chickie Cat says:

No, I never heard that. In fact some keep opal in water, though in some cases it could cause a crack, like too little humidity could do. Where did you find that info? But then again, I wash my raw silk in the washer, with Tide….

  75. Aqua Chickie Cat

I like the name you gave it – Dragon’s Kiss – it captures the essence. It has the dragon’s fire, the romance of a kiss and sparkle of the dragon’s treasure, and the shape of the egg (perhaps resulting from the kiss) :) . It really is beautiful!

  83. Vampire Chickie Ravin
    Vampire Chickie Ravin says:

Dragons Kiss is the PERFECT name for this beauty….odd about the water thing, as many opals are actually formed IN water, salt water If I’m not mistaken…and Australia is notorious for opals I’ve been told, dunno if it’s true or not, I love opals, I have a gorgeous opal ring, silver with 2 small bright sky blue base colored opals, one of the little stems with an opal on the end broke from wear and tear, dunno how to solder, nor can I afford to get it fixed yet, meh. Anyhow…this is gorgeous, and I would guess the price in the thousands, but truly, it’s priceless.
