From an ancient land (not) brass necklace
About this design:
The inspiration for this necklace came from a wonderful book a friend gave me some years ago. The book celebrated gold, jewellery and jems from ancient Egypt through to Cartier.
Amongst my favourite jewellery pieces are necklaces and earrings from ancient Egypt. Rich gold, bright turquoise, deep lapis lazuli and red coral come together in exuberant adornments. The necklace and earrings I made were inspired by the hand-crafted and textured Egyptian pieces.
For this necklace my colour palette was very limited, just bright and dark brass. I’ve hammered and textured brass flat washers bought from my local hardware store, made some large brass jump rings, and used smaller dark brass jump rings for the main parts of the necklace. Bead sets and a boho gold chain finish the necklace, while a smaller beaten washer is added to the earrings.
From an ancient land (not), but inspired by an ancient land and assisted by my local hardware store (yes).
