About this design:
I was sitting around the house wearing one of my pave bracelets and thought to myself I wonder what would happen if I tried stringing the Pave onto the working strand of my bracelet rather than the core strand. Although this bracelet style looks awesome on other stringing materials such as Chinese knotting cord and pave around the entirety of the bracelet, I decided to try going with a natural look with a bunch of bling. The leather was really nice to work with. I recommend using the 2mm cord for your core strand as it is more substantial, but use the 1.5mm cord for your working (knotting) strands. Don't pull your leather knots tight by pulling the working strands in opposing directions. Rather tie your knot, and work it into a tight knot by pulling one side at a time while sliding the knot up. This will keep your cord from breaking.
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
- 24" 2mm leather cord (to be used as core strand)
- 120" 1.5mm leather cord (to be doubled over and used as working strand)
- 12 8mm pave beads w/2mm hole
- 1 larger lamp work rondelle or button (to be used for closure)
- adhesive
- cutters
Step-by-Step Instructions:
|
Step 1: Begin your square knot 4" from end of leather cord. Continue knotting until approximately 2" worth of knots are complete. See Tip: Two-Row Pave Bracelet |
|
Step 2: String on all pave onto right side of working strand, make sure to knot at the end so they don't all fall off :-) |
|
Step 3: String a pave bead up into every knot (#4 shape). This will create the 2 rows. |
|
Step 4: Make sure to slide your pave up while pulling the knot on a diagonal, gives the leather in-between the pave bead rows the appearance of zigzaging. |
|
Step 5: Once all of your pave beads are knotted in, complete a matching 2" of square knots so that both ends on either side of the pave beads are the same length. |
|
Step 6: Make sure to put adhesive into your knots at the beginning and end of the bracelet. |
|
Step 7: String a bead or button on the short end, adding a couple overhand knots beforehand. Take the long end and form an overhand loop knot using your bead or button to make sure the loop is the right size. If you want to make it adjustable, double the size of your initial loop and add an additional knot in the middle, giving you 2 loop options. |

Evangelina says:I have one question;
Which leather cord should I use, 2mm or 1.5mm?
On Jan 11, 2013 at 1:43 pm #
Ali says:I recommend using the 2mm cord for your core strand, it’s just more substantial. The 1.5mm cord should be used for your working or knotting strands since it is more flexible. Just make sure not to pull your cord too tight in opposing directions. Pull gently in one direction while squishing the knot up at the same time … if that makes sense
