Hearts on Fire

About this design:

I finally had the chance to work with copper sheet metal. This was a particularly thin sheet and very easy to cut with kitchen shears. Lots of filing and sanding to get the shapes smooth. Used a big girl torch to add the heat patina. Head on over to my blog for a Valentine's Day give away of one of these heart pendants and a bundle of my hand made sterling silver ball head pins.
Happy Hearts Day everyone!

These hearts are adorable! The colors are SO pretty. V-day and beyond. Is the copper sheet from LB? What gauge? Is this easier or harder than working with Vintaj blanks?

Thanks, everyone! I’ll try to answer the questions you have. The copper sheet was a large recycled roll the teacher had in the class supply closet, perhaps 3 inches wide. I’m guessing about 24 gauge. Very easy to cut with heavy duty shears. And the ‘big girl’ torch I mentioned is one I get to use in the class I’m taking. Large nozzle, two hoses attached to a big tank of gas. One hose controls the gas, the other oxygen. You can get much more heat out of this baby that the smaller micro torch. Scared me to death the first few times I tried to light the thing. Here’s a picture of the torch stations in the classroom.
