About this design:

Love all this discussion about the joys of copper! I had a chance to experiment with copper washers in a rolling mill during a class. Should not have been surprised by the outcome...remember the smashed penny souvenir machines??
These have been rolled about 3 times. And I only heard them scream a tiny bit.
First one got hammered and hit with a torch. The second pair had a piece of netting laid on top for the last time in the mill machine, then oxidized.
Love the cool snake pattern...or is it tree bark?

Components:

Copper washers, sterling silver findings, glass beads

Gator. :) I spent one whole trip hunting down those machines to smash pennies for a friend for a birthday present. Turned out that I used the wrong pennies (can’t remember even now if it was supposed to be old ones or new ones!) but he added them to his collection anyway. :) I really love these but especially the gator skin with the leaves!!!!!!

Very very nice! I love using my rolling mill… so many textures, so little time. Burlap, Netting from bags of oranges, etc. Also, some places like metalliferous sell textured brass in everything from wood grain to fish scale to pokey-dots. I would love to own either pair of these. (ps… keep streching, they make really cool rings too!)

Oh My Goodness!!! These might be my FAVE pieces ever! I *so* love the colors on the copper and the silver chain sort of “grounds” them. Does that make sense?
The tree-bark and leaves are awesome!!! I want the earrings and a pendant! SO pretty. :)

I’m so envious! I want to learn to do this… to have time to do this… :)

Just like us girls…we sometimes have to go through painful things to make us more beautiful. These earring are so BEAUTIFUL all because of your hammering, milling and torching. :)

Okay…where to start…Glad you al think these are as cool as I do.
First, the rolling mill I have access to is a large heavy duty one in a class I’m taking at the adult school. I’ve seen some on the internet that start over $400 to $1200 plus. So the truth is I’ll never have one in my personal workspace. My source for copper washers is Harbor Freight…a box of 80 for less than ten bucks. I bought two boxes a couple of weeks ago on sale for $5 each. My plan is to sneak time in my remaining classes to make as many of these stretched copper pieces as possible.
And, Julie…yes, I get your idea. i think the addition of the sterling chain adds extra movement.
And, Rootware, I definitely will give your idea of making a ring a try! Can’t wait.
