About this design:
This was one of my very first fondant cakes, made for Easter 2010. I wanted to make something with a "wow" factor, and this was the result. The lilies were made separately, and assembled on the cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream (SMBC). I used edible luster dust on the centers, so yes, these were gilded lilies!
Components:
Dark chocolate cake with mocha SMBC, covered in chocolate fondant, decorated with fondant calla lilies.Read the comments (or add your own)

B Miller says:Thanks so much for all the kind comments! While I love making these artistic cakes, my philosophy has always been that these are, first and foremost, cakes, and are meant to be eaten. Taste is the most important factor in my baking – I make sure that I’m using the best ingredients, and that the recipes are ones that achieve the best results. I get lots of kudos for the design, but the thing that matters most to me is that once the cake is cut (and we DO cut into all of these!), the cake is as delicious as it looks! Betsy
