Flying Home

About this design:

I drive along 20 miles of marshland on my way to and from work every day. Along the way are several Osprey nests. I love to see the majestic birds coming home in Spring to raise their young, and then leave the nest in early summer. This necklace was inspired by their flying home.

Components:

FW pearls, citrine rounds and nuggets, embossed bird, nest pendant, natural brass link, brass wire, antique copper clasp.

I remember that necklace Susie, it made me look at BigKick, Deb those wire bundle beads are quite easy to make, you just need a lot of wire, make a loop then a few wraps another loop on the opposite side then go over your previous wraps, that is the way I make them, maybe Susie has a different way :D

  14. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

Yep, Asia. That’s the way I make them, too!

The end of the story, and why this necklace may be familiar is that I removed it from the gallery after receiving a submission call from Bead Trends magazine. Well, BT is no more, and I never received the promised 2 copies of the June issue. My necklace hasn’t been returned, either. I’m a little worried. I had another submission call for September….I’ll be reposting that necklace in the gallery shortly.

As an aside, it’s interesting to see Blue Bohemian and Flying Home on the same page….they are so different. Doesn’t seem like they were created by the same person….

I’m sure their publication house is still.cycling down. I would definitely call them & call them…until I received either my necklace back or money.

Yes the 2 pieces are totally different…which feels more comfortable to you style wise?

  16. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

The thing that bothers me most(and there are many), is that I’ll never get to hold that edition of BT in my hands and have it as a keepsake. I was so excited. I’ve sent plenty of emails and posted on Facebook. Apparently no one is answering.

I like both styles. I adore the color of Blue, and love the organic feel of Flying. When I first started out with jewelry, I wanted my designs to be natural and organic. Now I find myself wanting to experiment, so that’s what I’m doing…

You should definitely contact them Susie, I don’t know the magazine, but I definitely don’t like that they kept you and others in the dark.

  20. Deb Harding

CALL THEM. I’m sure they have a customer service number and other numbers listed in an older magazine. If you don’t have one find one . Nothing gets results more than a.person who has found a way to express their concerns verbally, it shows you are not goong to let it be forgotten.

  21. Deb Harding

1-801-225-9988 is the number I just got off their website. They go by Moumtain Time…9-5.

I’ll call in the AM. I promise. Gotta get some sleep. Everyone in the house is snoring cept me and I’m jealous! Wish I could sleep that sound! Sigh….

Please let us know how it goes, Susie. I think we all understand and want to know when you get your “babies” back home safe with you!

So sad that you don’t get your day in the sun but sadder still that they kept your creations!! Keep hounding them! Back to these necklaces: I am in AWE!

  26. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

I did chat with customer service online this AM. They say they will have all submissions returned by the end of the month. I think it’s sad, because they have 4 months worth of creations to return, and those people won’t see their designs in print either. The whole thing could have been handled better…they just closed up shop and never said anything to anybody….just a post on Facebook. How professional is that?

Anyway, when one door closes, another one opens….I just need to find it.

  27. Asia
    Asia says:

Susie, I’m so glad, now you just have to be patient, I agree that the company acted very unprofessional, that will hurt the business in the future, as my understanding is that they still have other publications. Fingers crossed for your babies to fly home very soon :D

Very very interesting necklace with many different elements. I would have put the leaf clasp in front.

  29. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

Thanks, Asia! I can’t wait for my babies to come flying home either. It’s nervewracking!

Ed, the clasp actually falls at the collarbone, which isn’t evident by the photo. I didn’t want it to detract from the focal.

Love this!!! There are soooo many great details, and it comes together beautifully. Hope it returns to you asap.

Don’t be concerned about all your work not falling within a narrow style. Who says it has to?!?

  33. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Susie I’m very relieved that you called and have a timeline on when you will have your creations returned. Hopefully the number I found was helpful. I’m a big believer in verbal communication in addition to written. I want the written as proof that I have expressed my concerns but I will call and keep calling until I get resolution…especially in regards to money and property.

I saw that post on facebook. Seriously…that’s the only way they let subscribers, readers, contributors know what was going on? And they made the decision that quick instead of having a phase out where the decision is announced in at least 1 if not 2 editions before the end? Unbelievable.

  34. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

I hear you, Deb. They had a submission call for November….A friend of mine was supposed to be in October. I think the only fair thing to have done would be to cease submission calls and publish until the last month of those submission calls. Very unprofessional, really, but I guess that’s the way it works these days.

I did purchase the digital edition of the June magazine. It’s not the same as having a hard copy….

I’m still concerned about my property…here it is the 17th, and nothing has come. I don’t think I’ll be bothering with anymore submissions. It’s not been a good experience.

  35. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

Just an FYI. My babies came flying home today, along with 2 unexpected copies of the June edition of BT.

Susie I was really glad to read your necklaces are home and you got print copies of the mag.. Just wanted you to know.the photos from the June issue are also posted on the Vintaj website. You are famous!!! So…how did you get.your stuff approved to be printed….I don’t think you should give.up either.

  40. Asia
    Asia says:

Susie, Deb is right, it’s in the blog section, BTW congrats on the new shop on Etsy!!!

  41. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

Wow! I need to go check that out!

I think that when you agree to let a mag print your design, you agree to let them share the images with other outlets. That’s all I can think of at the moment.

Asia, the new shop is a work in progress, which is why I didn’t say anything. I’ve seen some other opportunities to sell to the masses which I intend to research this weekend, so I’ll keep you posted if I change things over.

  42. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Actually what I meant was how did you get your necklaces in Bead Trends in the 1st place. I could see something of mine “maybe” in Jewelry Stringing but BT was a little high end…durn magazine was expensive too.
