Ocean Love

About this design:

I'm thinking about entering this necklace in the Vintaj July contest....theme is Ocean Surf. I need honest opinions. I made the wave using parawire & various shades of aqua seed beads. The little bodyboard is a Vintaj dogtag (I cut the bottom to be concave like a board) & made a seed bead leash. The white seed bead section has little shells I've found. The howlite turtles are extras from a macrame bracelet I made for my boarding buddy Jenn. The decorivet looked like waves to me so it covers the jump ring. Bunches of Vintaj ocean charms & the ocean surf pendant. Tiny stacks of recycled glass to look like beach glass.

Vintaj natural brass charms. Vintaj Ocean Surf pendant. Vintaj Parawire. Vintaj decorivet. Howlite turle beads. Aqua & white seed beads. Brass beads. Vintaj bead caps. Recycled glass beads. Real sea shells. Vintaj chain. Sari silk ribbon. Brass headpins, eye pins, jump rings, hook. Vintaj patina marine.

OMG!!!!!! Jaw drops to floor!!!!!! the is SOOOOOO COOOLLL!!!!! all the little details are fantastic by themselves but together you just blew the top off the competition!!! You had BETTER enter that in a contest, Woman!!!! OMG! LOVE the waves above and the surfboard details!!! Holy crap is this GOOD!!!!

    Deb Harding says:

LOL Becky I can always count on you for an enthusiastic comment. I had a little surfboard I made out of a woodworking biscuit…it.split when I drilled the holes in it. But I don’t think it would have worked anyway.

So you think I have a chance?? I just thought of the wire/sees bead wave last week. It’s pretty cool isn’t it??

  3. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Here’s the biscuit surfboard. It was going to be the toggle at 1st, then I decided that hid too much of the wave. So I moved it to other side. Then it split so I didn’t want to do another.

This is really cool Deb! Love the little bits of ocean stuff. Those shells you found are a nice bonus, and your waves are fantastic!

  5. puppychick labratbecky
    puppychick labratbecky says:

How cute is that surfboard!!! It might have hidden too much but maybe not. I think this looks fabulous without it but if you do want to make another, it would (wood-haha) be an awesome addition, maybe next to the waves? I love it all as is and with an of your little components!!

  6. puppychick labratbecky

Holy crap, girl. I have already sent my piece to Vintaj for the same contest. I did a bracelet and it is so completely different. :)

    Deb Harding says:

You guys are always the best! Okay so I’m entering. I just have to tweek something & take a better photo with my pentax. Then go to my Mom’s to upload & submit. Also I need to get my inspiration description perfected. What the piece looks like is important but the meaning behind a piece is also important. I need to convey how every little part of this represents such a big part of my life….especially my life from age 17- 40. And how much I want to recapture some of that magic which I have lost. Yes I still bodyboard but loss of income kind of puts a kink in that.

  14. Crazy Beader
    Crazy Beader says:

What an inspired creation, Deb ! Definitely enter it in any contest you can find – - it is so totally original. And you do need an even better photo to show all the details. Let us know how to vote for you – - -

Deb, you have to enter this, it is absolutely gorgeous, that wave is so fantastic, plus it is very personal, you have my vote 100%, all the best!!! :D

  19. Peggy3
    Peggy3 says:

Deb – you def set the scene for ocean love. All the different elements flow so well together.
The wave is my favorite too

What are you waiting for submit it! :)
I think its a winner and you got my vote.

  20. Sarajo W
    Sarajo W says:

Love what you did with the beaded waves! It sounds like you’ve already convinced yourself to submit, but I will echo everyone else… GO FOR IT! Your piece is fabulous and it is a no pressure kind of deal. I didn’t get my act together to do something this time (I’ve been doing too many other design challenges) but I enter most months. Best of luck!

  21. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

. I appreciate everyone’s compliments, praise, encouragement & love. You are the best…there us no doubt. I’m changing the way it fastens only because I don’t want to constantly be messing with it behind the wave. Its going to be a slide bead closure on the ribbon. I also found a dolphin charm so that will be added. I’m thinking of changing the name to ” Forever A Surfer Girl’ or ‘Surfer Girl Forever”. I could also make a kind of play on this song title “Sea of Love” to “Sea of LOVE of Sea”….or “Love of SEA of Love”. It is one of my favorite older songs & actually represents a lot of my feelings about the ocean and memories regarding it. Still not sure. So any.opinions?

  22. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

That should say “there IS no doubt”.

  23. Laud
    Laud says:

There are so many cool elements here, I just want to keep looking at them all. Very impressive, and you’ve nailed the ocean theme. Wish I could walk along a beach with such treasures!

  24. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Design has been tweaked a little more. 4 more of the tiny recycled glass stacks added. The sideways photo is the one I am submitting. I tryed a really beige background….no detail showed at all.

  25. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

I like the beach mat as the background as it goes with the theme. Can you rotate the photo?

  26. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

I have no idea if it goes to them sideways. I did not take it sideways. It uploads here that way & gets emailed to my Mom that way. But it uploads to facebook fine. This is why I’ve had to turn my phone sideways to take photos since I started posting here. I wish LB had the option to edit photos. Because I cant control how it uploads.

LOL its not a beach mat actually. Its a 1950′s straw placemat that my parents.

  27. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

Is your phone a smart phone? You can get the BeFunky app for free and edit that way. I would guess that if photos upload to facebook OK, they would elsewhere.

Well, your placemat reminds me of the beach! :)

  28. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

I have apps that edit. Its the way it uploads to here. So if I take a photo with my phone upright it uploads sideways. If I edit it it still does. Its like it knows which way the photo was taken.

  29. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Like I said they get.emailed to my Mom sideways also. But if I email it to myself its right.

  30. bojo ranch girl
    bojo ranch girl says:

I have loved to view your work through this past year and seen how it has evolved. This piece is truly a work of art. Thanks so much for sharing.

  31. Beadlady3 aka Cindy
    Beadlady3 aka Cindy says:

Don’t know how I missed this before…but my goodness! All the words have already been used that perfectly describe this piece! Just wonderful, Deb!

  32. Gail Layne
    Gail Layne says:

Love the placemat! It goes really well with the theme and the necklace stands out in all its gorgeousness!

I have the same trouble with stuff loading sideways or upside down on here with my iPad. I’ve found if I delete the picture and reload it, it will eventually upload the way I took it. No idea why.

  33. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Just so everyone knows I sent my submission for the contest Thursday night. I will be back here when voting is supposed to start to post a link. I will post a pick with this name & the things from this necklace. I’m nervous about the competition, there have always been some amazing designs & there have been others that I just don’t I’m hoping that people will understand that I was actually going for a kind of vintage type look….like something I would have worn in the 70′s and also a true “Surfer Girl” look…something you would find in a surf shop. Anyway…I have waited for this contest almost all year.

  34. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Oh and thanks again ti everyone for all the compliments on this necklace. I really do appreciate all the praise for this…it is a personal piece.
Also thanks for the concern and well wishes regarding my situation. I’m going to be busy this week applying for 10 times as many jobs as I have been. Plus sorting to things I can get rid of.

  35. Elis Mom
    Elis Mom says:

Deb, I totally get what you were going for, and am anxious to get the link so I can vote!

  36. franny
