Apple Taguas

About this design:

Messing around with no clear direction. Opinions, please. :) I think it has a Pacific island feel and I was going for a natural look with the picture jasper standing in for coconut or wooden beads.

Components:

Apple tagua nuts thick slices, Hemp in 3 colors, picture jasper rounds, Vintaj brass parawire, deconstructed chain, headpins, and lobster clasp. All of it from LB

Wow Becky! I lust love the color! I think either way, the piece is beautiful. The coconut or wood beads may lend a more tropical flair…just depends on you! I’d wear it everyday!

Sensational! I haven’t bought any tagua nuts, but this makes me want some. This is a real head-turner piece.

I have to find the right beads first-they need to look the part but still be smooth on the neck. I might even do bone (skulls? :) ). But if you like the design as is, it wouldn’t take much work to switch the beads once I find them.

Thanks! Laud–I wasn’t interested in taguas at fist either but once you have them in your hand they are smooth and rich and so organic.

Fantastic! Those apple tanguas really pop off the page. I just love the color of them, and how you strung the picture jasper in between them. Just fabulous Becky!

Very cool Becky. I like the picture jasper. It has an earthy textured pattern that complements the smooth tagua nuts. The hemp cord adds another layer of natural element. :)

What a pop of color!! And wow on those tagua nuts. Your 2nd photo really shows how pretty they are, shiny and a gorgeous mottled color.
I like the design just as it is.

I love the hemp woven in and your photo setting is superb! Reminds me of a retro-Hawaiian-tiki-totem man modeling the necklace :)
How did you get the leaves in your background to match the apple green taguas? :) I love the matte picture jasper, imho, no need to exchange out. The only thing that might be fun to experiment with is placing a few spikey-looking daggers/shards of wood or shell here and there to provide a contrast to the round jasper and the ’rounded’ triangle slices. But, what the heck do I know? I just know this is a really cool necklace!!!!

Picture Jasper is one of my first loves in the jasper family.

Wow! You guys are awesome!! You all came through with a lot of help! :) Lois, you kill me! :-D I was going to add some more brown hemp “spikes” like what is hanging from the nuts. Do you think I can just attach it to the hemp braid if I don’t cover too much of it? Or is that too much?
Laud, they are a little heavy which is why I needed something smooth around the back of the neck. Hemp was too sharp and so was the chain alone. I experimented with a strand of the jasper and some magatamas but settled on this because I liked the metal links.

    Hi Becky :)
Give it a try!! I love the hemp “spikes” you have handing from the nuts. Wonder what it would look like if you took both colors (as in your braid) in several strands (separate the hemp maybe?), and make sort of tiny, spiney sea-urchin-like ‘sprays’ to attach to your hemp braid.
Add a seed bead or two, kind of like signature “Deb Harding design danglies” – LOL
