Jaws

About this design:

I have had this shark charm for some time now. I was trying to get an effect like he was swimming along the bottom through long weeds. I'm not really sure about the design, might try again.

Components:

Midnight impression jasper from LB, Amazonite donut, Green Aventurine, czech glass, seed beads, antique silver spacers, bezel, and clasp, silver shark head charm, and other beads, all from my stash.

This is fabulous, please don’t take it apart ! But I can’t quite figure out how you did the seed beads (in photo #4). Share and tell ??? Seriously, this is a great design, Wanda, and a perfect showcase for that unique shark charm !

  4. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

I used a strand of blue wire and a strand of griffin thread with the needle already on, to string on everything. When I got to those beads I just strung seed beads on after each bead, and went back through the impressions jasper again. Hope that helps Paula.

This is really so pretty! I don’t understand all the techniques requires. But it sure is a very lovely piece.

The Jaws movie scared the heck out of me as a kid. ha ha

I love the beads you used…the colors are perfect and really pop. The curvy outline effect of the seedbeads is awesome— Great design Wanda!

This necklace is great. Love that seed bead section that weaves in and out…cool. Don’t take this wrong but I could do without the “shark”. No bodyboarder like a shark or man in the gray suit. They think we are seals.

  9. Laud
    Laud says:

I like! The way you beaded the big side rounds echoes the shape of the shark’s mouth. If you want to add anything, a tiny fish might be good.

I love the colors and the seed bead wave! What a fabulous design. The shark looks like he’s swimming through sea grass!

  11. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

Thanks everyone! What I wasn’t sure about in the design was the shark, if I should remove it or keep it? If it was too much at the focal?

This is so cool! I really like how you added the seed beads….the technique sounds confusing, but it looks great!

  13. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

Well I just used a wire for the weight of the beads with the thread. But it’s basically like my beaded bead, but only one strand of seed beads. If this makes more sense.

  14. Crazy Beader
    Crazy Beader says:

Gosh, Wanda, out here in the Great Plains we’re not afraid of sharks. That’s because we don’t know what they really are. So, leave the shark on, unless you’re planning to sell (or gift) this on one of the coasts ! Seriously, I think the shark is a really unique piece and is perfectly framed here.

    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

Thanks Paula! No the necklace will be for me :)

  16. Gail Layne
    Gail Layne says:

The shark is definitely cool! I think he helps make the necklace unique. I keep reading how you made your wave and I’m still confused. You strung everything on wire and thread until the wave and then made the wave on just the thread, then went back through the impression jasper? Or did I miss something?

  17. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

I strung the impression jasper on both wire and thread. Took the thread, added the seed beads to the thread, then went back down the impression jasper and up through the same hole I just strung both wire and string, but only the string this time.

  18. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

Yes Gail I strung the beads from the clasp on both wire and thread till I got to the wave part. Did the wave part, then strung the rest of the beads on both thread and wire till I got around to the other wave part. Sorry I don’t mean to confuse you, read this one first before the one I just posted. LOL!

    Nafri aka Nanci says:

Wanda, this necklace is super. But I think we’ll definitely need a bigger boat! Seriously though, the colors are beautiful and flow of this design is perfect. It should be fun to see how long it takes before people notice the shark charm. It will be a great conversation starter!

I think it’s lovely and you definitely have it right! Like the swirly seed beads, like waves of water! Lovely!

Love the Impression Jasper! I recently bought a strand. I am expecting it today, sooo inpatient. Hopefully it will come today…

  25. Crazy Beader
    Crazy Beader says:

Hey Wanda, congrats on having this design featured in the “What’s Fresh” section of the website’s main page ! I’ve been thinking all day about your instructions for stringing the seed beads. Here’s what I think you did (in slightly different words than you used): String both wire and thread through the round jasper bead, then separate the thread and string seed beads on it only, then come down through the top of the same jasper bead with the thread, join the wire and thread through the next round jasper bead and repeat the process two more times. I’ve never used thread or beading needles. What kind of thread and needle do you use ?? I really want to try this !

  26. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

    Hi Paula,

The thread I used was griffin, it has the needle already attached to it.

Yes you are going around the round jasper bead, and coming back up the hole where you just strung the wire and thread through the jasper.

  27. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

Thanks Paula for the lovely comment on the “What’s Fresh” section!

  28. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Well now I have a question…what are those cool.faceted beads? Those are gorgeous…also the more I look at it the less the jaws creeps me out. Sorry but when you’ve seen an 8 ft hammerhead hanging on a hook in a pier freezer and find out he was caught where you were riding your board all day…well.

  29. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

They are a czech glass bead I got at my local bead store, Deb.

Thank you all for the lovely comments, you are all too kind! I’m going to keep it like this.

  30. Crazy Beader
    Crazy Beader says:

Sorry, Wanda, but I’m a slow learner. Just looked at the LB section on Griffin thread and now I would need to choose between silk and nylon and also what size. What do you recommend/use ?? Do you match the color to the seed beads you plan to use ??

  31. Beadzilla aka Wanda
    Beadzilla aka Wanda says:

    Hi Paula,

I only had the silk, which needs to be pulled out and stretched, because it will stretch out with weight over time. Plus other tips for use. I would probably of used nylon if I had some.

I also did use the same color as my beads, and I used size 4.

  32. Crazy Beader
    Crazy Beader says:

Thanks, Wanda, I thought the nylon might be better – - now have some on my Wish List !
