The Mermaid's Pearls

About this design:

The Gaea mermaid pendant was a gift. It's so beautiful I really wanted to do it justice. Hopefully I have. The little blue "rice" shaped beads I don't know what they are...but according to several knowledgeable people here are apatite. The silver bumpy beads I picked because they look like bumpy sea urchin or starfish skin. The blue tassel on the pendant was actually part of the string the blue beads were on. I didn't like any beads I tried there.

Gaea Mermaid pendant. (Gift) Czech glass mint julep. (LB) Freshwater potato pearls. (Michaels) Blue rice apatite beads. (Gift) Bumpy silver beads. (Walmart) TOHO aqua lined seed beads. (LB) Shell button. (Hancock Fabrics)

Deb, this is fabulous! I really like the asymmetrical design, and the colors are vibrant and feminine. I think the little blue rice beads may be apatite….

What a beautiful necklace Deb! I especially like your button closure and the tassel. What clever design elements. I always keep those strings too but have yet to do anything with them, ’till now. I’ll be making tassels this weekend! Thank you for the inspiration!

  12. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Thanks Angela…the button closure was a last minute decision because I didn’t really have a clasp that went wth it. And I wanted something beachy like a shell. The tassel was just a….well. why not?. The hole is too far up for anything but a big jump ring. No bead looked right…all too big, wrong color…

Thanks also Gail, KatsAllThat, & Wanda.

Deb..I’m a little “tardy”but want to say how stunning this piece is. I’m sure the rice beads are probably Apatite or perhaps dyed Quartz?
(I have some dyed blue Quartz that are dead ringers for Apatite). At any rate,it’s a lovely design, and your work shows so much patience and thought. I agree that the button is great!
