Odonata Nouveau (for Nancy)

About this design:

Explanation of name: Odonata is one of those latin(?) classifications for dragonfly. It just sounds cool. To me the final design looked kind of Art Nouveau-ish. (Final...3-4 different failed attempts). This is the 3rd piece requested by Granny/Nancy. She sent an amazing assortment of czech glass and brass findings. It was so cool to design with them. Hoping I have done them justice. The 2 beads right next to the pendant are some I just got from Michael's (40% coupon). Czech lentils...love them. The patina on the pendant took a lot of work...because I don't have glaze yet. So apply, rub off, apply, rub off, apply, rub off....repeat & repeat again. I didn't want much color, just hints next to raised areas.

Components:

Vintaj brass dragonfly pendant. Patina in Marine blue. Czech glass: lentils, faceted rounds, rondells, picasso nuggets, crullers, teardrops, flowers...all in shades of aqua. Unknown turquoise stone (right side). Smokey topaz crystals. Small bronze crystals. Hamilton gold shell pearls. Miyuki topaz gold seed beads. Brass bead caps, jump rings. Brass wire 20g.

Love how (in the last two pictures) the pearls pick up the underlying color in the pendant. The turquoisey blue accentuates everything wonderfully. A gorgeous piece and one I would wear even though I don’t care for dragonflies much :-)

PS. Whatever you did for the last two pictures really showed off the colors!!

Thank you Becky, Laud, Gail & Paula. Regarding the wirework at the pendant. That is probably my 3rd attempt to get the effect I wanted. I tried one with beads…nice but too high up. Tried one with a beadcap…it didn’t look enough like wrapped twigs…which is kinda what I was going for.
Gail the 2 photos you liked have no cropping.or editing at all. That’s just my ugly painted concrete porch lol.
Nancy sent lots of pearls. Those best matched the pendant to me.

Wowie! This is gorgeous Deb! You did a fantastic job on the pendant–just enough patina. The pearls were genius; they give it vintage charm while bringing out and enhancing the colors of the pendant. Great design!

Thanks Angela & N4B. I had a lightbulb moment using the bead caps to hide the crimps. I think that added to the vintage look. Bonus with the pearls…it feels so smooth on your neck!!

Wow, how did I miss this last night when I was prowling about at midnight. I love the whole piece especially the results of all your hard work on the pendant. I know there must be a clasp there somewhere but couldn’t find it.

I love, love, love, the whole effect of the turquoise/aqua throughout the necklace matching the color in the pendant. And the gold pearls are used in a way that is sheer genius. Its all so very pretty.

Thank you Deb. You done REALLY good! :)
