About this design:

I wanted to post this last night, but 2 digital cameras + 2 dead batteries = no picture. As soon as I saw the Vintaj boho fan on the contest page, I knew that I wanted to use it as the focal for a necklace. Then, everything that I tried, I hated. I finally settled for this design. I wasn't sure I liked it at first, but the more I see, the more I like it. Wore it to work today and got some compliments, so I don't think I will take it apart. I wanted a simple pair of earrings since the necklace is a busier design. I also learned that I hate making wrapped links with 24 gauge wire. :)

Components:

contest components: vintaj boho fan, filigree tubes, 24 gauge parawire, headpins (including one used for the hook clasp), 10mm jump rings, ruby sari silk, 6mm olivine czech, 10mm topaz czech, 12mm amethyst czech, 3mm topaz crystal. added components: 8/0 amethyst seed beads, 4mm jump rings, golden sari silk.

The way you finished the end of the sari is perfect! It’s so neat and tidy. Love the colors you chose to go with the sari. Beautiful design Jolene!

Very very nice. I’m sure it did get compliments. How did you finish the ends of the silk because I cannot figure that out?!!?? Why do you hate 24g wire?

Deb, I prefer a larger hauteur wire for making links. However, the 24 hauteur wad perfect for finishing the silk. I cut two lengths of silk, each a little more than double the finished length I wanted. Then, I folded them in half and made a lark’s head knot on a 10mm jump ring. That makes 4 strands, so two are held together to make a 3 strand braid. When I got to the end, I fed the strands through another jump ring, folded the ends over and put in a few stitches in matching thread to secure it. Finally, I trimmed the ends of the ribbon and wrapped 24 hauteur wire to cover the ends. I wrapped some wire on the knot side for symmetry.

It’s the attack of the spell checker!!! Apparently the word “gauge ” is not in my kindle’s dictionary and the closest thing it could come up with is hauteur. ;)
The second sentence should read 24 gauge was perfect…
