Pelican at Peace

About this design:

This pendant is from Scorched Earth on Etsy, by Petra Carpreau. I am completely enamored of her work and this is my first attempt at using one of her pieces. Is this too much? I wanted the bird to appear to be sitting on old pier pilings. The gray stones are gorgeous cat's eye quartz and even more luscious in person.

Components:

Ceramic pendant by Petra, Cat's eye Quartz, Sunstone, Champagne quartz clear Quartz, Leather, Silk string, Rollo chain, Flex Wire in Pewter, Steel jumprings (murder to open!)

What an intriguing pendant, Becky – - love the concept and design of your necklace. Is the necklace terribly heavy, though ?? It’s hard to tell from the photos, but it does look like the leather holds the weight, so it may hang beautifully – - – . Guess I’m just a wimpy little person who doesn’t like wearing things too heavy.

It is only a little heavy. I didn’t want to add too many stones but they aren’t as heavy as they look and the pendant is lightweight. I tired very hard to get the leather an chain to hold the weight together while still remaining separated because at first it was leather alone and that is not as comfortable. I am a wimp, too, but I am very comfortable with this on. Trust me, I check out everything. :)

Tried–not tired, although that, too! :)

I can certainly see why you fell in love with this guy! And you’ve certainly assemble a wonderful collection of beads in just the right shapes and colors to make him feel right at home. I too wondered if this was too heavy to be comfortable, but glad to hear that it’s not. Someone’s going to get a lot of compliments wearing this!

Thank you for pointing out that I need to mention the weight — I just added that to my Etsy posting. This weighs no more than the tagua nuts.

I can see why you loved that pendant, it looks gorgeous in the picture. I’m sure even more so in person. Fantastic use of all the different gems. Gorgeous Becky!

Thanks for answering the weight question – - it’s always hard to tell when you can’t touch something yourself. Comparing it to the tagua nuts makes me understand perfectly – - and it is simply gorgeous, Becky !

I swear he looks like he’s sittin’ on the dock of the bay. Or on the rocks of a jetty. All the stones look like beach stones. Everything ties so well together. Awesome work Becky.

Yup, awesome… makes me lonesome for the beach.

When I got my first glimpse, I did think the little guy was sitting on pilings! I think this is a beautiful necklace!

I saw it first on Etsy, just loving it, like Deb said he looks like he is sitting at the docks. Waiting in anticipation for your next pieces with Petra’s beads, isn’t she just wonderful? I have a cart full with her new beads, can’t buy them all, have to start elimination process ( very heart breaking ) :D

Me, too, Asia! Did she have a Cheshire cat that I missed? I would for sure have bought that! :)

Deb, I caught the song reference. :) It was in my head while I was assembling this. Thanks all of you! I hope someone likes it but I wouldn’t mind keeping it myself. :)

Love the pelican! You did a fantastic job with the design. He looks right at home on his “pilings” and the rest of the piece accentuates him perfectly.

I do have a suggestion for your listing though. If I were buying him, I’d want to know not only weight but size too. It’s hard to judge size from pictures sometimes. Just a thought.

Thanks, Gail! I will add that.
