Slice of Beauty

About this design:

Merilee and I had a few hours together last Friday when she had a layover at MSP airport. We had a great time!! She brought me a duffle bag of stones and beads from her stash in London and this pendant and these stick pearls were part of the haul. It was Merilee's idea to put them together and I found what I think are perfect additional beads in my stash.

Components:

Slice of shell with beautiful shimmer, Stick pearls, LB, Rice pearls, LB, Greige crystals, LB, Turritella agate nuggets, LB, 2 colors of seed beads, LB, and Vintaj Brass wire and components, all LB. :) I forgot the Andalusite teardrops--they were the first things I found to match the honey brown of the shell.

You just have a way with unique designs Becky. Even if it’s not displayed on “Tom Posten” I know its yours. Those stick pearls are awesome and the pendant looks kinda like a map of “Pangea”

What a great selection of elements you chose, to go with the pendant. It truly is inspired!! Those Turritella agate nuggets look just so yummy, I really need to get some. What a wonderful time you and Merilee must of had :-D

Thanks, ladies! I actually had to literally take this entire piece apart 4 times to get it right. Each time I though it was done until I took a good look at it and each time I went ewwwww hmmm, gotta change it.

And we did have a very good time chatting and getting to know each other in person instead of only online. :) I still think we need some kind of event where all the chickies can get together. :)

Fantastic, I agree with Deb, it is uniquely you I can recognize your necklaces right away, that is good, you have your own style :D

What a stunning necklace! I like the sticks, I think they mimic the radiant pattern on the pendant. Your beaded clasp and brass connectors are too cool, great wirework! I love your turritella, I’ve only got a 1/2 strand of rounds, which I’m totally hoarding. ;)

Thanks so much! Deb- it does look like Pangaea!

Are you guys sure that I don’t just have one design idea that I use over and over??? Sometimes that’s how it feels….

I forgot to add the Andalusite teardrops (I just added them now) to the list of components. They are the honey brown color that really matches the brown of the shell and warm this whole piece.

I definitely don’t think you use the same design over and over! You have the ability to take bold, unique elements and meld them in a design that accents and showcases them. You DO have a “style” but its not repeatative in the least. I think having a recognizable style is a wonderful thing. I’m actually searching for my own but can’t seem to settle on one yet.

What a fantanstic piece Becky. I am impressed by all the unusual stones and the pendant in particular. I’m glad you got to spend time with your friend and to spend that time together “beading!”

    puppychick labratbecky says:

Whew, thanks–Gail that is very reassuring. I don’t want to be a one act pony. :)

Thanks, Nancy! Your earrings will be on their way as soon as I get a few other things packed up to send–I have baby clothes for the granddaughters and beads for a friend and a messy table. :)

Do you guys realize you all know Merilee as Chickie Red Haired Granny? :)

I cannot wait to wear this beauty! She has offered to send it up to me but I prefer be with her when I see it for the first time. She has the most amazing Bead Room with all of her stash so well organised in an assortment of plastic bead boxes. She also has small paper plates filled with a variety of beads in specific colour schemes that she mixes up with her finger and contemplates. Too much fun.
On my way back to London I have an 8 hour(!) layover in Minneapolis; I hope to meet up with her again for more beading fun … cannot wait what she has done in 3 weeks.
Be sure to check out her Etsy shop which is full of delicious pieces. I have seen them and want every one.

I now have this beauty in hand and it is absolutely gorgeous!!! The photo does not capture the iridescence of the focal bead which simmers from ivory to peach to a flash of green and back again. Even though I saw that the angel skin pearls looked good with the shell, I would never have come up with such a beautiful and intricate design. Becky is a total bead genius! Even though we had 8 hours together between my 2 flights, it was not nearly enough time. I hope to catch up with her once we are settled back home ‘cuz we had Some Fun!
