My First Polymer Clay

About this design:

I have been wanting to experiment with polymer clay for some time now but was too intimidated...but I had some b-day money to spare and finally decided to take the plunge! This cardinal is my first piece! I absolutely LOVE polymer clay! That being said, it took me forever to put this necklace together! I'm not entirely sure that I am satisfied with it..any suggestions? :)

polymer clay cardinal, Czech glass beads, hemp cord, tierracast bronze jumprings, natural gray leather, various metal leaves, bronze leaf toggle, gun metal bronze wire

Any suggestions??? YES… send that cute little bird down to me!
Love the simplicity of the shape but the detail in his wing. Great with the cord and the Czech glass… and of course the necessary leaves.
I have been curious about poly-clay and actually bought some… but have been SO busy… Now I’m even more intimidated. ;)

Thanks so much for the encouragement and the kind words everyone! It is truly an inspiration to see and interact with everyone! :)

Julie Shane: Don’t be intimidated…I wish I had started sooner! ;) It is actually quite calming and enjoyable to squish and mold clay into something more than a lump and what’s even better is that it’s not so hard once you start it! So please, please don’t be intimidated and try it out! Oh, it helps to have a good set of tools to work with the clay too…I have a set now but when I made these two pieces all I had was a needle and a little plastic pokey thingy for kids that came with my clay! What a difference the tools can make!

JenniferLynn: The necklace hangs at about 16.5 inches down!

Thanks again chickiepoos! You all are AWESOME! ;)

Love the cardinal! He is a very fine bird especially as a first time piece. I’ve never tried polymer clay. Guess I’d better put it on my bucket list along with stained glass and welding. :D
