Winter Rose

About this design:

My Mom wanted a necklace for a new outfit, so we went to my favorite bead store at home and spent a good part of the day narrowing down the options until we settled on a longer necklace design (30") with rhodonite and silver rounds. Mom likes the pastel pinks, grays, and near-coral of the rhodonite, but not the heavy black matrix on some of the beads, so we got two strands so I could sort out the most intensive colorations and still have enough for the long necklace. She wanted it very simple and elegant, so I limited to rounds with the silver in between. She couldn't find a clasp she liked in our search around town, so I ordered one when we got back home. To make it sturdy given the weight of the beads, I used 25lb breaking-strain nylon-coated stainless steel wire. To keep the crimps at the end of the wire from pinching the hair on the back of the neck, I used silver crimp covers, which will loop easily onto the clasp when it arrives. Oh my word. She will adore this! It’s both soft and bold at the same time. Very elegant and simple, and I think she could easily wear it dressy or casual. Your pattern is excellent to showcase both the silver and the beautiful stones..
Thanks so much for posting what type of wire you used. That’s really helpful,as wire can drive you insane!! ;)
    Beautiful work!!

Thanks. I posted the wire because I’ve had a *LOT* of experience dealing with broken / damaged wire thanks to my sister. When I give her jewelry, she wears it all the time in all sorts of conditions (to bed, teaching yoga, in the shower, etc.), so I had to find *something* that would hold up to her active lifestyle and various weather conditions. I use either ZambaPro or a similar nylon-coated, braided stainless steel wire. They can be hard to cut, but they’re very durable!

Rhodonite is really lovely and you picked some great stones. I am sure you Mom is going top love this. I have never tried Zambapro but exclusively use SoftFlex. I make a lot of heavy necklaces and need the durability Soft Flex offers. Never had any issues with it. And the colors they offer are endless. Here is their link if you want and every month they put different colors on sale: http://www.softflexcompany.com/

@Katsallthat– yeah, I usually use SoftFlex. I’m currently out, so was using the ZambaPro because that’s what I had left. Both are excellent.
