Raven Haven

About this design:

I got so excited when I saw this pendant that I forgot to look at the measurements. I've never done anything with this large of a pendant before, plus it's really heavy! The stones almost jumped on the board by themselves, but I fiddled with the chain forever. I didn't want it too loopy as that looked a bit too Victorian. But when I had it too snug you couldn't even see the chain. I originally had the raven on a bail but decided that I liked the necklace by itself and wanted to be able to remove it if I wanted to wear the necklace solo. I am rather short and small so I've never felt I could carry off a really large piece of jewelry so I attempted to mitigate the size of the pendent by not adding too much bulk while still trying to balance the size. What do you think? Did I do it justice? The pendant is hand carved out of one piece of jasper and the raven is handpainted. It's rather impressive really. I originally made this for my costume (Gypsy Queen) but I seem to have grown fond of it...,.

Components:

Labradorite, Blackstone, Brown Zebra Jasper, Golden Feldspar, Matte Black Rollo Chain, Black Clasp, Hand Carved Jasper Pendant

Wow! This is gorgeous. I love the pendant and the chain and beads you chose to put with it are just PERFECT! What is the actual length of the necklace? I think you were wise to be able to take the pendant off if you wanted. You have a slam dunk here!

Beautiful and different. Love the idea that the pendant can be removed so that you more or less have 2 different necklaces! Great job!

Great pendant, and the way you added the chain works perfectly, Gail ! Have a very Happy Halloween – - -

Thanks ladies! I forgot to mention, in my long winded spiel, that I used tiny black jump rings as spacers around the wavy black beads. Because of how they’re drilled you could see beading wire and not even the tiniest ridged spacer hide it. The only other option was to thread a tiny chain onto the wire which I tried but the jump rings actually looked better!

Nancy, The necklace without the pendent is 17″ and sits on the collarbone. The pendant sits on the breastbone. I couldn’t make it too long or I’d knock myself out when I bent over! :-)

    *rigid* spacer! Sheesh..

My keyboard is possessed! Happy Halloween!

Spectacular! The stones are so pretty, but the pendant definitely steals the show. I agree with you about long necklaces. I shoot for around 19″ with pendant because I don’t want a necklace bouncing on my belly.

This is a really gorgeous necklace Gail! I love the earthy stones with the black. I had to laugh at your comment about making it shorter so you don’t knock yourself out when you bend over. Too funny! :)
