Winter Twilight

About this design:

I had a winter scene pictured in my mind: It has snowed all day long and everything is covered with a beautiful twinkling layer of snow. The sun has just set and in the twilight, the snow shimmers and glows. The sky and world are calm and the purple shadow cast from the setting sun light the silvery world for a moment.

Components:

handmade polymer clay focal then hand painted and covered with resin, sari silk, czech glass, tierracast jump rings, nunn design jump rings, handmade clasp

What a beautiful necklace Jess! And your pendant is gorgeous. How do you apply resin on a curved surface without it running all over the place?

    Thanks everyone! :)

Angela: When you apply resin to a surface other than a bail, you work with the surface tension of the piece! Don’t ya just love physics!?! :) Anyhoo, the piece will take a certain amount of resin without overflowing, you just add the resin drop by drop and just take your time…if you add even a drop over it does overflow. It’s just trial and error and lots of patience! ;)

Oh, I also use a paintbrush instead of pouring it…that helps a lot too! :)

WOWZA! This necklace is just stunning. The colors are so deep and rich that they create an almost mystical feel to the whole piece. Beautiful design with so many wonderful details, makes you want to just keep looking at it!

Thanks for the tips Jess! I’ve never worked with resin although I’ve read a lot about using it in bezels. I didn’t ever think to use it like this. It must be thicker than I thought. Cool! :)

  12. SweetBirchDesigns
    SweetBirchDesigns says:

Yeah it is a little bit thicker and thickens as you go..yeah I meant bezels…oops! LOL My brain and thought completion don’t always play well together! Sheesh! ;)

You have captured the quiet & mystical moments of the first snow at sundown. It is a peaceful & private moment filled with calm, quiet & an overwhelming realization of the strength of the earth; what power the earth mother has over us humans and animals. I have never felt such rapture and caught in memories of so many such lovely moments of past snowfalls. This is art.

On a technical note: Did you mean that you painted the tree? If so, what with?

    SweetBirchDesigns says:

Thank you so very much! You all are so kind! :)

Nancy, yes I agree, we are very lucky to be surrounded by so many talented artists! It’s wonderful that we can share and give kind words or support and encouragement to each other! :)

Jude: I reverse stamped the tree design onto my polymer clay and then I painted it with acrylic paint. That way when the piece is covered with resin, the tree seems to stand out more. The acrylic works great on polymer clay and you can blend it like watercolors(which I love).

Sorry…that was supposed to be “of support”….that rascally brain-hand coordination! Sheesh! ;)
