Sugared Spearmint

About this design:

I decided to make some candy swirl beads for the holidays! I remember going to my grandmother's house as a child and getting pieces of Christmas candy out of the tins! It was always so colorful and I had such a hard time choosing which piece I wanted! Here is my homage to Christmas candy!

candy swirl polymer clay beads, Czech glass, sari silk, waxed linen, handmade clasp, frosted birch leaf

Wonderful beads, colors–and I’m impressed by the silk, too. I can never figure out how to use the sari silk properly.

I keep coming back to this beauty,Jess.
Like Laud, I’m impressed with the silk. It intrigues me but I have trouble figuring it out too.
If you don’t mind my asking, how did you attach the ribbon end next to your candy piece? Looks like a knot but maybe you wrapped waxed linen to secure it?

    Thank you so much! :D

Mary S: I had made a wire loop on the side and I wrapped the sari silk in the loop a few times and then tied it with wax linen. The second picture is of the backside. Using waxed linen makes for a cleaner look but I still love tying knots with it. I think the thing with sari silk is that it is not supposed to look really formal, but organic. I had trouble at first too, cause I was like what am I supposed to do with this, but the more you use it, the more you get a feel for it. I have trouble with waxed linen too and am just now getting a feel for it. I think sometimes it’s hard to go from really neat and clean wire wrapping to a drapey, organic, and kinda messy look with the sari silk…but it’s a good messy! :D I hope this helps! :)

Jess, you are awesome! This helps a lot.
I really like the organic/messy look. It’s just going to take me some time and practice to figure out how to incorporate this new component into my designs.
Thank you so much for sharing!

Great design, as with the other gals I too have problems with the silk. Thanks for explaining. Beautiful I might add.
