Fall Party Piece

About this design:

...yes, really! I was asked to do a necklace for a "fall bridesmaid" model at a sort of mini wedding fair held here last weekend. She needed something quite dark and showy, preferably in black and bronze, I was told. And "if you could do the chain in bronze...?" Well, ouch! I had the wire, but omg it was hard! And then I had to sand all the wire ends by hand -- enough, I'm getting a tumbler!!! Was told it fitted her neckline perfectly (didn't get the chance to fit it myself), but haven't heard anything else yet.

Components:

Onyx beads of different sizes, and rondelle, much of it from LB. Beading wire in black. Bronze wire in 1 mm and 1.6 mm (that's 18 and 14 gauge) local, and very beautiful. Twisted the links to the chain around a latte spoon handle, and cut them apart. Torched the 1.6 mm wire to soften, and melted blobs onto the ends of the hooks. Hammered. Had to snap the photo at work with my phone to get some daylight, and the space was not what you'd call ideal...

This is gorgeous! I love bronze and combined with black, well, it’s just divine. Beautiful design :)

Striking! Love bronze with just about anything but it looks fabulous with the onyx. Love the square links on the chain and the “blobs” on the end on the hook. Can see why your hands might be sore, the spirals are pretty awesome too!

If you tumble them you don’t have to file the jump rings??? REALLY??

Beautiful, inspires me to do some work with copper wire I purchased when I was in MN a couple years ago (my how time flies). I think I will work mine up in green with a leaf pendant that I have. Thanks!

Well, Gail, I’m not absolutely sure, but I think it definitely would help get the worst edges off. And the girl in the shop which sells tumblers and this wire didn’t look like it was a bad idea when I asked her (but she had no tumblers left last week) — and she herself does handmade chains a lot, and gives courses which I never have time to attend… We’ll see, I can think of other uses for it too…
    And thanks to everyone :-)

Loving it, but tumbler will not help, you still have to file the ends :D

Beautiful and elegant and smashing and …! Your chain is wonderful! Cannot contemplate doing one with good thumbs, much less arthritic ones. I hope the piece was a HUGE success!
