Wild and Free

About this design:

I was so pleased to find this new GG button, literally minutes before I placed my LB order. It was a new addition that week and so, BONUS! I got it at 20% off to boot! I knew I wanted to do a southwestern feel for it so I mixed the CzechMates this time to include browns and turquoise. I hope it works with the button.

Components:

GG horse button, natural light brown 2mm leather cord from LB. CzechMates 2 hole 6mm square beads and matte metallic bronze 11/0 seed beads from my stash.

This is gorgeous. I have been wanting to use the Czech mates. I have used the Tila in mine before but I believe the Czech mates are move rounded. Waiting for a good sale! Great GG button too.

Very pretty! Will have to get out my stash of 2 hole beads and give this a try.

Thanks guys! Yes Kats, I have also used the Tilas and liked them. Lately I have leaned toward these CzechMates because they are thicker and more stout/stronger? I really like the finishes on them too. I wish Lima would offer more colors so I could buy them all here.

This is a great bracelet. I have never heard of CzechMates, so I’m going right now to get educated…and see what Lima has in these. Thanks for posting!

Lovely piece and great design! :D I like the touch of the occasional string of round beads among the square. Definitely has a southwestern feel!

Always love your designs, Angela, and this is a real winner ! Am thinking about trying this technique – - what kind of thread do you use ?? Any other tips for a beginner ??

  9. SquirrelGirl aka Angela
    SquirrelGirl aka Angela says:

Thank you so much! CB, Ali has a great tutorial here on LB, which is how I learned this technique. I have used KO, Nymo, C-Lon and OneG. OneG is my favorite by far because it comes preconditioned so it doesn’t tangle as easily, which is the biggest frustration with these bracelets. For just a double wrap I have to wrangle 25 feet of thread. ;) The other treads work great but you have to condition it with a wax like “Thread Heaven”

Thanks, Angela ! Have looked at Ali’s tutorial and also read the many comments, but there seemed to be some variation in the thread people liked. Your results are so stellar, I figured you must know the secret. I am just starting to try to sell some of my jewelry here in the Ranch country of Nebraska – - so, if I imitate your designs, I’m definitely not invading your market ! Your styles just look like something cowgirls might wear – - -

    Thank you Beck and CB!
Go for it CB! I think cowgirls would love these. Glad I could help and let me know if you ever have any questions! :)

Very nice. I like the 2-hole Czech better than the tila. They are thicker. I like the different color beads.

    SYD Sydney H says:

That is a really nice bracelet; I’d have never noticed the round seed beads in there had not Erin mentioned them. Now I’m not dissing your design at all, but – what if the seed beads were an off-white? You’d notice them easier…. ?

  15. SYD Sydney H
    SYD Sydney H says:

Oh gee; I’m getting carried away here. Or lavendar seed beads? Not dark, but light lavendar, or golden yellow; not ‘bright’, but soft golden

Thanks ladies! I like your suggestions Syd, especially the soft golden color. I’ll have to try that on the next one.

Terrific color combo and the Southwest inspired design is excellent! :)

I need a GG horse button to go with my horse collection. :D

I too have this button but haven’t worked it up yet; I love the color scheme so much. Your bracelets were some of the first I favorited on etsy long ago, your simple styles and use of earthy colors mirror my own preferences so much. This is a beauty!

    Sharonpearl says:

What a lovely piece – it’d be perfect with my long denim skirt and cowboy boots. I’m going to have to try one for myself. Thanks for the inspiration!
