Help me Hummingbird & Result

About this design:

As you may have seen by some of my recent designs, I'm playing with wire designs of creatures (bugs, birds, etc) and things. This hummingbird needs some help, and you are the smartest people I know! :)
I am pretty happy with the frame, although it is a little bigger than I had pictured in my mind...! You can judge the size by the wire cutters.
My dilema is that I am unsure how to finish him off. I was thinking of wiring more Czech faceted beads in a combo of colors inside, or maybe some olive-lime green FW pearls that I got from LB a while back, smallish. I thought it might be a brooch...so it needs some structure to attach the pin.

Thoughts? Ideas, suggesstions...? All welcome!

THE FINISHED Hummy!!

Components:

16g Artistic Green Wire; 24g Artistic wire lime green, 4mm faceted crystals and 3mm faceted Czech crystals.

What a terrific frame, Cindy ! I can picture it with more Czech beads in the lower body – - and maybe one of those pearls as an “eye”. Think I might like it with some open space left in it. But I’m not the designer that you are – - – am sure your finished product will be spectacular.

Ditto above. Great idea and design. I think he should definitely have an eye so he can see where’s he going, and maybe just lightly fill in the rest. I also like some open spaces. Maybe he could land on a flower??? I have no experience w/this, but love the idea. Will be interested to see how it all turns out!

The frame and color you have right now are simply divine! Maybe a burgundy or deep red with a little darker topaz?

Cindy, I agree, the frame is wonderful and truly mimics the brilliant green that hummies have across their backs. Of course I have many pictures of hummies as a bird lover and will try to attach one for you to see. A little ruby below the beak with a champagne color fading back to taupe & to green would be lovely. Can’t wait to see the finished piece!

I agree with all the comments above. I think it is gorgeous to begin with. I think it would look amazing if you added in some green and burgundy, and maybe left the white of the bird empty.
I can’t wait to see what you decide!

I would do a background made out of PC…but that’s me, and I am totally addicted to it! PC allows for mixing and marbeling of colors and you can also embed beads into it. It bakes hard, so you would certainly not have any trouble attaching a pinback to it! Czech crystals are good also. I can’t wait to see the finished design! P.S.—seedbeads would work well in this also…..since the outer frame beads are large…they wouldn’t overwhelm the innerspace!

    Crystal Canary says:

Wow, I like Beadaholic’s idea–seed beads would be great as they would give the appearance of small pieces of feather! I had to come back for another look–Cindy, how did you ever form that frame? :)

I would design a twig across the bird attach a pin to that.

How about a piece of mesh something that would hold its shape and then you can either paint a design on to it on dust it with something that glitters and shines.

Thank you all! I used some seed beads, some various sized crystal rondelles, even the ruby E-beads (rocailles?).

The frame was actually formed by laying the wire on a drawing I made of the outline of the bird. I marked with a sharpie where to make the next bend, picked it up, made a bend or a curve, put it back on the drawing, made the next mark…it was an interesting process, and I may try it again for a fish or dragonfly. :D

Oh Cindy, He is beautiful! I love his little eye and ruby throat! The crystals shimmer and reflect the light just like the hummies do as they whiz by in flight! He is perfect–great job on all your hard work! :)

WOW! Cindy this is a beauty! Reminds me of the hummers I periodically see in my front yard and the ones I saw growing up. Ruby Throat from the mid-west and Anna’s from California. Truly an amazing piece of work. LOVE IT! :D
