About this design:
Every child is like a star on earth--says the movie "Taare Zameen Par" (released by Disney under the title "Like Stars on Earth"). We are all links in the chain that contributes to the success or failure of children. Give them the right tools and training and their stars with shine. Fail them, and their light goes out. This is my contribution to Bridgerland Literacy's annual fundraiser's Silent Auction.
Components:
Deep red carnelian and leopardskin jasper stars, silver-plate chain, wire (for star links), toggle, headpins and jumprings. Necklace is 22 inches (not including pendant).Read the comments (or add your own)

hlt Designs says:Beautiful piece… and what an amazing sentiment behind it.

Science Chick Runs Sibes says:Thanks for appreciating the sentiment. I tutor both adults and children who’ve not been given the tools to overcome dyslexia by the school system. It’s so rewarding to see the light come on and along with it a gain of self-esteem and self-reliance once they realize they are NOT stupid.
I found the leopardskin jasper stars in a Salt Lake City rock shop, Rockpick Legend, along with two sizes of picture jasper and milky quartz stars. The carnelian stars are from Jewelweaver.

Mary S - Sweet Chick says:I love everything about this!
The design, the story behind it. And it has a very youthful feel, but also something I believe someone of any age could wear!

Faithful Chick aka Faith says:Cannot say much more than already said, but I certainly agree with the entire theme and idea. I love the jewelry piece. It is as delicate as the children it represents. Life is fragile handle with prayer. You all will be blessed ten fold for the gift of the heart. Count your blessings.
These stones are beautiful I love the necklace. Great gift for the auction. Should bring a good price I should think. Wonderful contribution.

Science Chick Runs Sibes says:Thanks for all your kind words and compliments. I’m delivering the set to the Literacy Center today. It goes on auction Friday night at the annual Scrabble tournament.
Faith-thanks for the prayers for the children. My current student needs all he can get. A tough case.
Mary-I did hope that the necklace tho delicate would have an ageless appeal.

Science Chick Runs Sibes says:I got to watch the bidding war on this set last night. I was assistant to the Silent Auction manager; so it wasn’t precisely lurking. There were three high school girls (all on the same Scrabble team) who all wanted it. I showed one girl the clasp that allowed the pendant to be removed and she showed the others and anyone else who’d listen. I overheard one say that she’d use the pendant to accessorized another necklace, too. The adults got out of the bidding after they realized that the girls were so determined. Considering that it was allowance money, I’m flattered that the set brought in over $40 for Literacy.

Science Chick Runs Sibes says:At last night’s Literacy fundraiser and Scrabble tournament, a variation of this design was in a silent auction bidding war. It sold for several times it’s regular retail price. And, as I managed the silent auction, I have a big, swelled head this morning from all the raves I overhead.
Another cool thing was that the movie that inspired this design was showing in the auditorium.

On Jan 29, 2011 at 11:54 am #
