About this design:
While looking for something else I came across this pendant in a box of stuff. Not sure where it came from, had a tag on the back that said $45. I polished it up with my silver cloth since it's stamped .925 on the back. I got the turquois beads from LB of coarse just recently so I thought they would pair perfectly with the pendant. I noticed though if you look closely at the pendant on the bottom it has some discoloration still, can anyone suggest a solution to remove it????? Want to make it cleaner.
Components:
Turquois beads turquois silver pendant. Will show again when completed.Read the comments (or add your own)

Elaine aka Belly Chick says:Great pendant…it will look really good with those stones!
Up here in Canada, we have a liquid called Quick Dip that I use for silver. It might be harsh on the stone so if you can find it, you could try cleaning it with a Q-Tip so it only touches the silver. You would want to rinse it with water right after and then polish. I think it would fix it right up!

AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:No!not with turquois! It will ruin it. All porous stones, including the amber will be ruined if that solution which is based on ammonia will be ruined.
Just leave it as is

AllureofGemsGlamJulia says:I ment used instead of the last ‘ruined’.
I killed a beautiful coral with it , sometime ago

Leigh D says:Definately do not dunk this pendant in any type of cleaning solution/chemical – more than likely it will ruin the stone. I ruined a bracelet using a jewelry cleaner, the silver cleaned up wonderfully but the stones were porous and the cleaner took the shine/some of the color away from the stones. I was totally bummed.
I think that Elaines suggestion of using a Q-tip, dipped very sparingly in the solution and apply to the SILVER ONLY may work – but proceed with caution. What I have found is most jewelry cleaners are meant for gems such as diamonds and not for softer semi-precious stones.
I now only use Wrights Silver Cream on my silver pendants/jewelry. I have used it on all manners of earrings, bracelets, and gemstone pendants and it has yet to ruin any of the stones. I even have a baby toothbrush reserved for use with this cream to get into the little grooves.

Jeannes Gems - Gem Chick says:I was going to suggest the same thing as Leigh – silver cream with a small toothbrush just on the silver. I rinse with warm water.
the pendant will look lovely with the beads.

Jewelry by Shannon says:I was going to suggest those little white polishing squares that are totally dry, so nothing will get on the stone. Fold it into a point and polish. I get them at my local beading store but all the national stores have them too.
I have something that was my grandma’s that had that blue-ish tone that Wright’s wouldn’t remove and the polishing squares did. It may take a little trial of a few things before it cleans up the way you would like but looks like you will have a beautiful piece! SLS

KittyMom Linda says:And don’t forget to store all that wonderful silver with anti-tarnish strips of paper. They work woonderfully for me.
On Mar 14, 2010 at 6:28 pm #
KittyMom Linda says:One more thing, the best thing you can do for your silver is wear it – to keep it from tarnishing. Now, that is a nice fix isn’t it?
On Mar 14, 2010 at 6:38 pm #
Faithful Chick aka Faith says:I suggest just wear it also. The more you try to clean the silver around the turquoise the more chance of ruining the stone. If you stop and talk to a real working repair old fashioned jeweler he will probably tell you the same or he will clean it for you. Otherwise unless you don’t care about this beautiful piece clean away. I cannot even hardly notice the discoloration sitting at my computer with the screen enlarged. Sooo unless someone is going to burry their nose in your chest to look at it chances are they are not going to see it either. God forbid that happens I hope it is somebody you know or care deeply about cause there are not too many people gonna get that close to you. Turquoise and softer stones are not to even be worn around hair spray and household chemicals. Guess what ladies best remedy for ink in clothing is to spray with hair spray before throwing in the washer. I used to do this years ago on my stripe on a waitress uniform. It ate right through the stain.

Dizzy Chick Lori Z says:I agree with all of the above comments – including the “leave it alone” option! It isn’t that noticeable, but I’d go with a dry method of cleaning first if you can’t live with it.
I think the turquoise will make a lovely companion to the pendant – can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Elaine aka Belly Chick says:I agree with Julia and Leigh…you must be very careful if you are going to try a solution like that!

LeighAnn F says:Very beautiful pendant! I can’t wait to see the finished product!
On Mar 14, 2010 at 9:59 pm #
Vampire Chickie Ravin says:I agre with everyone, but also have a suggestion as well, a little bit of liquid soap ans water on a mild steel wool, scrub lightly, I repeat, lightly, with it, and it should get rid of it without messing with the stone, or marring the silver. It worked on the silver and tuorquois pendant my mom left me.
On Mar 14, 2010 at 10:48 pm #
grama rose aka stormy says:tooth paste on brush and cloth to wipe not on the stone though… good luck!
