Kathryn, I admire your organizational skills!!! I agree with Linda, though — looks like you’re ready to outgrow that set of shelves. LOL

BTW, tell your hubby — “Who has time to cook when there are sooooooo many beads to play with?”

This is exactly what I need…. I do have a kitchen, but we don’t have a dining room anymore. It is truly been converted to my bead storage/work center! I’m so jealous, I called my hubby to come and look at your new shelving unit. I want one!!!!!!!!

I love that you organize by color…makes sense since that’s how it’s done in bead stores, but for some reason I’ve never done it at home!

I’m afraid if I tried this, I’d still have a mess. I’d have all those containers spread out around me so I could see what I’m looking for. Then I’d get lazy and not put them back on the shelf ’cause I KNOW I’m coming right back to work on a project and then I don’t and……and…..

I organize mine by color as well … so handy. Mine are nowhere near as organized as yours though I did start putting labels on them by color the other day.

I buy my containers at W______ in the fishing department. Really makes heads turn when I buy them 6+ at at time! LOL.

I’ve started a small lampwork and agate collection, so those are just organized by type of bead.

I have mine organized the same way. My problem is putting everything back when I’m done. I find beads that I have forgotten about and start planning another project. So I also have things organized into future projects. Sometimes though I have forgotten exactly what it was I had in mind.

I’m so jealous! Can we come and play?? LOL

L Francis, I know it is so hard to put things away especially as little small beads get mixed together.

I try to then “pour” the loose beads into a large tray, after separating all the gold/sterling beads, and then make the next project something that involves an ‘assortment’ of beads to use up that stash! SLS

This is just what I need for all my beads. I also had my husband come and look maybe we will get to a store that has the shelves I want. My whole dinning room is the beading center here. No more family dinners at Mom’s unless we can all fit at the kitchen table. All shelves I have looked at have no back, just open shelves. The back is important to prevent beads getting lost down the back. Thanks for sharing.

And dinner….I eat it at my beading table with the computer tuned into LB right behind me. The family doesn’t questions me but they doe laugh at me.

Oh how I long for the days when I had a room for beading. When I gave up my house and moved in with my sister (after her husband died) my beading space became a corner in my bedroom. I have a closet where I keep all my beads – in plastic bins – by color. And When I want to work on a project I go pulling bins to find what I want. When I had my bead room – I could just pull the door shut and no one could see the mess and my cats couldn’t get into anything. Now everything has to be put away every time so the cats don’t destroy or have my beads everywhere.
I keep telling my sister we need to put up a small storage building in the back yard that can be all mine for beading. Maybe someday…..

Great organizing. I too put my beads in those plastic containers, but not by color, more by kind of bead, glass, gem stone etc. I started out in a small corner of our kitchen, then moved onto a small bedroom, and now my daughter has moved out, I have a big bedroom with tons of space for all my mess. Just hope I don’t out grow that room. My husband is very understanding of my obsession with beads, but I don’t know if he would build a house with one giant room for beading. I just can’t see that….LOL

I have my beads in containers but that’s as far as it goes…I keep trying to keep the colors together but they rearrange themselves at night when I’m sleeping..or maybe the dragons just wanna have fun! I’d send pics but you’d all laugh so hard it’s be hazardous to your health!

THAT LOOK GREAT,I KNOW THAT TOOK A LOT OF TIME BUT I HAVE TO HAVE MY BEADS LAID OUT ON A LARGE 4X8 BOARD SO I CAN PUT BEADS TOGETHER, I CANT REMEMBER WHAT I HAVE. JUST OLD. I LIKE BEADING, BUT NEED A SOURCE TO SELL MORE.

Love it! Organizing is such fun because you discover all the things you forgot you had! I try to organize by color, but as we all know, when you work on a project you pull out more, and more, and more until you have the perfect design. And as we also all know, those beads roll and hide and you end up with all sorts of leftovers and orphans and lost beads. I just keep adding those into one big bin and periodically sort through all that and put everything back where it belongs.

I’m lucky I guess in some ways. Ted always says when he is hungry right then. Well are you going to make dinner, lets go out and eat I’m hungry. Cannot say I’m getting hungry. LOL I wish I had just a fraction of the beads you have. I have 2 tins probably 8x11x3 of little baggies lined in rows inside. Time for me to get creating again.

I can’t believe someone can be this well organized! My project of designing the perfect bead storage system has been a work in progress for a couple of years now – it seems every time I get one box organized, I end up messing up the rest. And usually, when I start sorting all the boxes, I end up making jewellery instead .
