Sun, Moon and Stars

About this design:

Here's a fun pair of earrings. I'm marketing them on cards that say: "You are the Sun, Moon and Stars to me."

Guess what the main component is!

Components:

Surgical steel earwires, silver-plate jumprings, mystery bead/findings

OMG, these are outrageous. I LOVE them. Are those tomato cans? How creative can you get??? I think you’ve started something…be prepared! These should sell like hotcakes on a February morning! FAV!!!

Bev…You’re close, but I won’t reveal the secret component ’til others have made their guesses.

EekaM–you’re banned from participating as you have insider info. :-O

And the winner gets?….a pair of earrings? Ok, guess #2 tomato label transfer to PMC.

Too cute!!!! A nice reminder of vine ripened tomatoes!!!! I think the can would have sharp edges, so I am guessing you used the label, or you photocopied or scanned the can and used some sort of scrap-booking technique.

  5. Little Round Chick
    Little Round Chick says:

I agree with Bev…these are outrageous! Love, love, love them! I won’t even hazard a guess as to what the material is. Could you give us just a little hint? :D

  6. Dragons Chicky
    Dragons Chicky says:

How about tomato juice cans? I’ve done this with soda cans..Pepsi, Coke, Sprite etc..

I won’t give away the secret, but I wanted to let you know how CUTE they are! My imagination was not as good as reality.

They should also be a big hit at the Gardener’s Market this summer…

  9. Science Chick Runs Sibes
    Science Chick Runs Sibes says:

    Ah…Dragons Chicky is very close.

EekaM, thanks. And, I’m reassured by everyone’s reactions. Sometimes when you make something it’s hard to judge whether it was a good idea.

Shall I draw out the suspense just a bit longer?

    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

These are absolutely adorable, Gayle! Such a clever idea! They do look like portions of a can — since you’ve ruled out juice & tomatoes, I’m guessing tomato sauce. :D

They’re bottle caps – aren’t they? They are so cute. Whatever they are, great idea!

    OK–a clue:
Al was behind the 8 ball.

These are adorable! But,my guess is …beer/soda tray? Coasters? I give up!

    Beadlady3 aka Cindy says:

Well, that clue just threw me off my guess (shrink plastic or friendly plastic, with transfers on them). They are very adorable though!

They are adorable….could they be made from a plastic juice container and cut with a Cricut type of cutter? :-P

OK…here’s the scoop on the mystery component:
    1. Bev and Dragons Chicky both got the can concept. Dragons Chicky was closest by citing that she does “this with soda cans..Pepsi, Coke, Sprite etc..”
    2. KH got another aspect–scrapbooking technique. But, ruled out cans.
    3. I didn’t rule out all juice–just tomato.
    4. Clue: “Al was behind the 8 ball.”
Al = chemical symbol for aluminum [As Dragons Chicky pointed out.]
8 ball = hinting at what the can contained: V8 juice.
    5. Elaine mentioned the use of a cutter.

    So….drum roll, please:
    The mystery component is…..
pieces cut from an aluminum V8 Juice can using scrapbooking punches that are rated for light-weight metal.

The Al cans don’t produce sharp edges when cut with the punches. I’m also using other juice cans (guava makes a lovely green and pink combination) plus sometimes soda and beer cans.

If there’s interest, I can post some more detailed instructions.

OK, I am going to be the first to admit it: “Wow, I couldd-da had a V-8″!!!! I knew I had seen that pattern, but I did not know that the cans could be cut. I will have to take a closer look the next time I go for groceries. :)

    Science Chick Runs Sibes says:

BTW, save the pop-top tab as you cut/punch the cans. They can make findings too–see “Belle Armoire Jewelry”, p143 for a picture (advertising the GreenCraft Magazine).

    OK…CANS! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. :) Whatever the source, these earrings are GRRRRRRRRRRRRR8!!
I just love Bell Armoire Jewelry…also Art Jewelry (my fav…the instructions are so good).
