Description from MH: I saw this luscious necklace in a book with 20th century jewelry. There are large aquamarine beads with a very large clasp dazzling in a large piece of kunzite cut like an emerald. The kunzite is so clear it appears nearly as dark as pink tourmaline

Melody F says:The Kunzite Faceted Flat Slabs would make fabulous focals in a necklace. The Aquamarine (A) Tumbled Nuggets would be gorgeous with them. Pink tourmaline for spacers? Maybe with a jeweled clasp. A POD would sure help the prices, although one could make several pieces to spread the cost. A luxurious pick. Fun to imagine!

MH says:The necklace I was looking at was created by Cartier in the 1960s for a woman named Helene Rochas whose jewelry was auctioned in Paris in 2012. Champagne dreams….. I just bought a used newer edition of a book called “20th Century Jewelry & the Icons of Style” which is amazingly illustrated and tells about the women who wore the jewelry, some with tragic stories.

EPBCornell says:Congrats on your 1960s Cartier necklace inspired POD! I can imagine a great piece or 5 you could make with this pick in its style. I wish those Kunzite slabs were in stock, as one would make a stunning focal with 10mm diamond cut aquamarine rounds in homage to that necklace. Could hook or small spring ring to the side of a pave link in the back in lieu of a large ornate clasp. I must find a picture of the Cartier. That sounds like a fun and fascinating book. What a find!

MH says:Thank you all. EPBCornell- I used to get this book from my local library. I took it out so many times that I decided to look for a used copy to buy. Two editions, the newest cheaper because it’s smaller. Some of the designs, especially the bracelets and earrings, are adaptable to our Czech glass and seed beads. Look at your libraries or through inter-library loan or library ebooks. In Denver we still can’t enter the libraries but can put books on hold. They sanitize them and meet us in the parking lot so we can take out a limited number of books. How society has changed and will be changed for a long time- so much we have always taken for granted!
