“Arthritic Thumbs”

Description from Chicky Red-haired Grammy: Hard use and, yes, abuse, over the past 63 years ... from playing sand to embroidery to throwing pots, gardening, blowing glass, needlepoint and, yes, beading! And allergic to aspirin, besides. Life is not for sissies.

Wow, this pick says it all! Sad concept… arthritis and all… but wonderfully executed! The colors and selections are just perfect!! :) You are so right about life not being for sissies!

Merilee, I’m so sorry to hear of your struggles with arthritis. Your pick perfectly depicts the issues many of us face. Sigh. Great choices & arrangement! :D

Are you stateside now or still across the pond? 8)

    PPR says:

Merilee: Thanks for sharing. My mom had arthritis very bad and she never stopped gardening. Your pick brings back good memories and is such a great combination of colors and elements.

Love the pick, not fun to have arthritis, but just keep on moving, nothing worse for it than sedentary lifestyle :)

Merilee, this is beautiful and clever! Sorry about the arthritis- no one seems immune. Love your positive attitude! You go girl and we’ll follow!!

Oh gosh can I relate… I am 73 after all. I have 2 deformed thumbs and rods in my back. That’s why I love playing with beads. Super escape.

Anyway, this is so cool. I’m getting to like copper more and more.

I sincerely hope this becomes a POD.

    Great picks!

You nailed it! Great pick depicting this sinister condition. And, love the PH face. There are a lot of Chickies out there that can relate to this pick. There are no Sissies in LB Chickies. Go Girls!!

I broke down and had a cortisone injection in my right thumb ….
Y-e-e-o-w!!! Took some months to finally be truly effective but at least I no longer need to wear the brace. I do row 5 km a day on our machine in an effort to stay as fit as possible at 63. Rough going some days.

Eileen, thank you for asking. I am back in London after spending the summer in our beloved northern Minnesota. ‘Course, no lung troubles there at all but once I got back here … went through one bout successfully without prednisone but, every day presents a challenge. We may need to leave earlier than anticipated or we may need to find other accommodations as the stagnant water in ‘our’ marina is not helpful, even with an air purifier in the flat going 24/7. And so it goes, ever onward.
    Take care.

Owie opposable digits. Hope you get some relief! I wear wrist braces to bed and take some time to be able to use the old paws every morning, too, but I am sure it is nothing like your pain. Wasn’t the chance to do all that artwork worth it, though? :) and this artwork is delightful!

  12. Chicky Red-haired Grammy
    Chicky Red-haired Grammy says:

Absolutely, Becky! Would not have missed one moment, especially the wheel-throwing of pots … my enduring heart’s passion, although it has been many years since I last sat on a Leach wheel. To this day, my left calf is larger than the right due to that flywheel level.
