“Assorted Laces”

Description from S KatollakaSue: The new glass orbs with the ivory flowers inspired this pick. Looking for Queen Anne's or other lacy pieces, I found almost too much great stuff. Finally I (reluctantly) whittled it down to 16. Hope you all have as much fun looking as I had picking!

Sue – what a lovely pick! When I was little my mom did needlepoint, and tatted when she was bored with that, so I learned a bit. This really brings back memories! (I could do ok until I tried nylon thread, and darn near cut off fingers!) I swear I’ve done a Zola-focal doily!

Very nice selection of many of my faves and a couple I am just finding because of your pick!
I have the Queen Anne’s lace cabachon, the crystal button and a couple glass orbs. I really like the ivory lacey orbs you chose.
I gave (one of) my son’s girlfriend the red flower orb on an adjustable sterling chain. She loves red and it was a hit! Your pick is a hit, too!

Yes, memories here too. My mom and one of my aunts both crocheted, and my mom tatted and knit. I guess the thing that came down was doing something to keep the hands busy in a productive way.

    So incredibly lovely!
Wonderful collection of textures & colors. Like a patchwork quilt of lace.

This is a most memorable collection of lacy pieces! They too bring back memories of my great-grandmother and my grandmother crocheting, my grandmother tatting, my mom knitting and my crocheting. My grandmas never read a pattern. They only looked at the piece and counted what they needed to do.

I love all the lacy pendants. They’re my favorites. Wonderful pick ideas.

I learned something new today – in the Victorian language of flowers, Queen Anne’s lace symbolized Sanctuary.

Sue – no wonder you love it! In the world as it is today (I am reminded of C. S. Lewis’ “That Hideous Strength”), I can’t think of anything more comforting than the knowledge that somewhere there is sanctuary.

“That Hideous Strength” is a piece I’m not familiar with. As I’m a fan, I’ll have to hunt that out. Thanks.

Sue – iy’s part of a “space trilogy” but its about as much science fiction as Olaf Stapledon. The 1st 2 books are “Out of the Silent Planet” and “Perelandra.” All 3 are worth reading, and for a Christian theologian, C. S. Lewis has the best description of the Buddhist worldview I’ve ever heard, towards the end of “Perelandra.”

I’ve always found him to take a more informed view of things than some others. Thanks. I’m a little tired of my usual reading round, so I’ll hunt these out.
