“Buttons, buttons everywhere!”

Description from BevB: My mom would put her buttons in tins. I loved looking at the unusual ones. I also have my own collections of buttons. I sometimes remove buttons from clothing, and replace them with an assortment of buttons. This changes the look of the clothing, especially jackets. When one of my daughters was 5 years old, I gave her a piece of fabric and an assortment of buttons to sew on it. It not only kept her busy, she learned to sew on buttons.

Bev, I love your collection of Czech buttons! I have several of them on my Wish List, but no clue what to do with them. I fantasize about having a silk dupioni coat with those big gorgeous buttons on in and atepping out of a limo at some gala. Ha! That’s such an awesome idea having kids sew fun buttons on fabric! Fun activity in this time of stay-home-stay-safe!

Kathryn, there is nothing wrong with fantasies! We would do a lot of artsy things to keep the girls busy, especially on rainy days. Now they are adults, and they still like to create things. It is not unusual to receive a handmade gift. I have quite a few pieces of furniture from my brother and father. My favorite is the library stand my brother made for me. It is all wood; the only metal are the brass hinges on it so I can lift the top to an angle and place a book on it. There are lots of ways to use these buttons.

Bev, what wonderful ways you have used buttons!! I never would have thought of using buttons to teach my girls sewing! (They’re big on cooking, which I never was, and gardening.) It sounds like you have a wonderfully creative family!
