“Bzzzy Bzzzy Beeeezzzzz”

Description from puppychick labratbecky: Gotta get some opinions: Hubby is now allergic to at least one type of bee, fire ants in Florida (yep--he stepped near some during the relay), and a few unidentified things. I am planning to add more to my flower garden this Spring. Can I add more "bee" plants??? I am not going to let hubby off the hook with yard work! :)

Well Becky as long as he has one of those epipens I don’t see why you cant have more flowers. I work in my flower bed right next to the bees all summer and I haven’t been stung yet. Maybe he should just do lawn maintenance and you do flower beds to be safe.
FIRE ANTS!!!!! Hate those things!!! They ruin my yard and hurt like h**l. I take it you don’t have them…lucky you.

Anyway extremely cute pick. Didn’t know LB had all that BEE stuff. I love when I see new to me stuff.

Thanks, Deb! He does have an EpiPen. We have always had a yard full of bees with no problems until this last summer when at least 2 nests of ground hornets moved in. Those things are just plain mean and I’m not sure how beneficial they are. That’s what sent him to the ER. I actually like working side by side with the fuzzy little bumblebees. :)

Yea I don’t like those ground hornets either….they are mean! Maybe he should always have a can of hornet sprag with him also.

Gotta get rid of those Hornest’s nests!!! They are nasty!! Bees, for the most part don’t bother you until you disturb them in the course of their work! LOL
I love having them in the yard-they love my lavender! Good luck to hubby this summer!
BTW- Your pick is bee-u-tiful, Becky!
Did you know that Utah is the beehive state?(I love useless trivia)

Hmmm I meant hornet “spray”…durn tiny keyboard.

Hornets be banned! Gotta have an epipen, and you should carry one as well for him (cause we all know men forget such things). What would they do without us taking care of them. LOL This is a lovely bee pick. I love my garden’s lavendar and all the bee and hummingbird attracters…it ‘makes’ the garden complete. Plant on. I think having a bunch of hornet spray is also as important–since running the lawnmover over a ground hornet spot is more likely than bumping into a little bee. Good luck.

We are on the same wave length with the color schemes today, Becky! But totally different themes. How cool is that! I love your bee themed pick! :)

Epi pen and bug spray! AND long sleeves! I am allergic, too!

Oh Becky. I am allegeric too! It seems Florida is the capital of ANT country. We have them everywhere!
We had a roaring campfire and s’mores for a summer camping trip. I was the only one who sat near the fireants. By the time they got me to ER, they had to cut my shoes off my feet and keep me overnight for observations.

OH!!! I *must* own some of that Mexican sunflower stone. Some or all. Doesn’t matter. The ovals are gorgeous! But the nuggets are TOO much fun and funky!

Fabulous bee pick, Becky! Love the pilbara jasper with the topaz crystals.

We don’t have the fire ants up here, thank God! Hubby did not think to bring his Epipen to Florida for our run last weekend. When I found out I went ballistic! This was after he showed me the fire ant bites and the swelling and growing hives on his body. We went to the first aid tent at that hand-off site and they gave him some oral Benadryl. The hives went down but if they hadn’t, we would have been in th ER, too. I am sure if he ever gets another fire ant bite, he will have an anaphylactic reaction to that, too. So Jacki is right—I needed to bring his Epipen for him. Men!

    Asia says:

Love this one and the title, get rid of the hornets unless they are good for something or you would like your husband to suffer a little for the “no more beads” remark :D :D

Becky-stash epipens all over the place and plant what you want. I have a huge garden and try to attract bees. If I go out early enough to harvest in the summer I am actually surrounded by them as I crawl through the tomato/melon/zuke, etc. jungle. If I am early enough I can hear all their buzzing. Given all the bees we have I have never been stung (though did get Zoe stung when she was a baby, a bee was between us and I did not know it when I hugged her). So, tell him to leave the bees alone and do not get romantic in the garden and he will be fine! ;)

Just read about the hornets. Those are horrible. I am an organic-ish gardner but do not hesitate to use heavy duty stuff on hornets. Nothing else works and hornets can be very aggressive.

    Also_love this pick!

Asia–tempting…. :) Thanks, chickies, for all the comments and advice! I’m digging those nest sites out as soon as the ground gets soft and before the little meanies wake up.

  20. Deb Harding
    Deb Harding says:

Well me I wouldn’t dig them up. I would set them on fire. I HATE those things.

  21. puppychick labratbecky
    puppychick labratbecky says:

:) Here in the frozen north you actually can disturb nests because you can do it when it is too cold for the bees to fly. That’s one thing our frigid weather is good for–vermin control.
