“Feedin' the Youngins'”

Description from Mary - Sweet Chick: With ever-so-little green left in the yard, I've been watching momma and papa cardinal bring their babies to the back yard to feed. Every morning and evening they search the grass for corn & seeds I've scattered on the ground.

Beautiful colors and theme Mary! We had a papa cardinal that was trying to teach his little girl to fly! They are so cute to watch! Love this pick, it’s a favorite! :)

This is soothing and exciting at the same time. Love it. Oh, if you can get your hands on some safflower seed, that’s the cardinals’ favorite.

Mary, this is gorgeous. Perfect colors – great story. We must take care of all the critters when there’s no food, and no water. Great tribute to our feathered friends.

    Thanks everyone! :-D
They arrive like clock work every morning and evening (or if it’s cloudy). The babies have such a pretty, muted red and sandy brown covering of feathers. Mom and Dad have are just finishing up their summer molt. They were looking pretty scruffy a couple of weeks ago. Looking good now!

Laud, yes they do love safflower! I give it to them in the winter. :-) We don’t actually feed them in the summer. They are just getting the fallout/leftovers from my pet birds inside at the moment.

simply delightful, Mary!…thank you for explaining the source of the colour combo: it completes the picture!….what birds do you have inside? I have budgies on the balcony & they attract other birds, from the nearby park…my son woke once to find a juvenile kookaburra (off track from its flying lesson) on his bed watching him intently!…they are to be treasured!

    Mary - Sweet Chick says:

Franny, I have an Umbrella cockatoo and a Senagal parrot. :-)
Love the story of the kookaburra on your son’s bed! :-D What a cool experience!
Birds, they are indeed, to be treasured!

    franny says:

Mary, i envy you the parrots, tho i’m becoming increasingly ambivalent about birds as pets: it seems to deny them so much of their natural instinct to soar above the world!….mine do exhibit some control over their environment, letting me know vocally when they’re hungry/thirsty (& looking quite pointedly at seed/water trays), singing loudly to the garbage truck, & ,like demandimg children, chattering noisily if i’m on the telephone!.But always a photo of your birdies, pleeze!
