“From Blackout to Dust Storm”

Description from Lynn in Oz: What a night! The last 16 hours have been the strangest 16 hours we have had.

A storm whipped up yesterday at about 5pm. By 6pm we had no power. That lasted for 2 hours.

The storm ended but the wind continued.

Woke up this morning and there is this eerie orange glow outside. The wind has covered our entire state in a dust storm.

Everything is covered in orange/red dust.

I have piccies that I will upload in a minute.

I am intrigued – cannot wait to see the pics – I just watched something on the news about this – are you in AZ?

The first is last night during the blackout. You need to remember that i live in the middle of a suburb. The two reddish lights are lights from a town that is about 10km’s away as the crow flies. It was so dark and eerie!

The second piccy is my outdoor setting and the 3rd is my lovely white car :(

Our white house has a coat of very fine dust over it. And it is getting in all the cracks.

Here in the States they are having some nasty dust storms – they were showing clouds of dust and dust storms in Arizona!

The black out pic is kind of creepy – I think I would really freak out if something like this happened!!!!

Hey Lynn–that sounds weird. The first pic was eerie. I am in OK and we have a lot of red dirt/ clay and you don’t see it blowing like you described but there is always a layer on our outdoor furniture and such. Your pick really matches what you have described.

Hi Lyn, love your pick. I’m in Brisbane, Qld and we are in the midddle of a dust storm right now…. it’s crazy, never seen anything like it.

Lynn, what an amazing set of photos to show us what you’ve been through! Your pick illustrates it perfectly!!! I hope you and your family are OK and not suffering any ill effects from all the dust in the air — sweet little Jabari, too!

    Wind is still howling :(

The dust is lingering too. No serious ill effects although my asthma is playing up and hubby has the flu, so the dust is tickling his throat and making him cough more.

The only ill effect that Jabari is suffering is no walkies LOL

Wow Lynn, what a freaky thing to have to go through! The blackout must have been creepy – it happened to us once when an ice storm knocked out all the power lines. (when I lived in town, that is). You just don’t realize how accustomed you are to city lights at night!

Sure inspired a fab pick, though! :D Hope you all are better soon, and that the wind stops howling!
