“Green Pastures”

Description from Lois D: We've enjoyed a few days of "January thaw" this past week. Our pet sheep have ventured out into their fields to graze on the patches of brown grass revealed by the melting snow. I can just imagine them dreaming of greener pastures :)

Thanks for the feedback, everyone :) It’s so nice of all of you.

We have 12 sheep; Two jacob (ewe & wether), two twin Painted Desert sheep (White hair sheep/Barbados Black Belly hair sheep ewes) and ten “BBBs” (one wether and 9 ewes). I’m a wannabe felter; still haven’t mastered the craft after all these years. My goal was to felt enough for my own yute…ya think I set the bar too high? LOL

@Deb – Too funny! You’re right, I’ll have to monitor their on-line time, just like I have to with my little dogs. They’re always emailing their K-9 cousin and complaining about their human “mom” & “dad”, so I can just imagine what the sheep would be telling all of you – HAHA!!

    Lois D says:

Oh, good grief…I’m such a doofus. I meant to write “yurt”, instead of “yute”. Mixing my Native American’s with portable felted dwellings…yikes, it must be past my bedtime – LOL

Love the bright, clear greens, here. Emerald green is everywhere in the early spring fashion coming out now. Enjoyed hearing about your sheep. I’m curious where you are located? Would love to hear/see more picks about your farm life. :-)

Oh my goodness, thank you all! Wow, this is just a fun way to start the day. Especially one like today, which started out below zero! But, “they say” warmth is on the way.
In the meantime, thanks for the congrats. This is so much fun!

We’re located in what is considered central Maine (Winterport), about 11 miles SW (as the crow flies) of the “city” of Bangor.
Would love to tell more stories about our animals :) Our ‘farm’ is more of an hobby farm. Have moved back and forth across country more than a few times (for job purposes and then to care for family) and have taken our ‘critters’ with us each time. Quite the adventure :)

    @puppychick labratbecky :)
(said lovingly and tongue-in-cheek, ’cause I know you’ll get the humor):
You (and everyone else) are welcome to come and live with us. We take in all kinds of ‘strays’ – LOL. (Said in humor) That’s what I tell people all the time.
    Everyone is welcome here.
I used to do wildlife rehab. work in Arizona (had my fed. and state licenses), so we ended up taking in lots of castaway domestic animals in the process – many were drop-offs, because folks figured since I did wildlife rehab., I must also take dogs, cats, birds, etc., too. We even rescued an adult male pot-bellied pig which had been abandoned in a trailer park. What a great ‘guy’ he was. Had him for 15 years. He travelled to Maine with us; never did get used to the cold weather (neither have I) LOL

Thank you all for your kind words. I wish I could meet all of you in person, but cyber-hugs will have to do!

    puppychick labratbecky says:

:) I would have LOVED your job!! Animals of all kinds are the best!!!! btw I say the same thing about strays! We are now empty nesters but we have hosted international students for a bunch of years and our kids would bring friends for long visits, or to stay for summer jobs. Our house has been like a hostel. :) I wish I could have done the same with our furry and feathered friends!

  29. J Yee smart chick
    J Yee smart chick says:

Lois, thank you for sharing your stories of the sheep you have, and the other strays whom you have rescued over the years, wow, a pot bellied pig!! Do you have some pics of your sheep that you could share with us? And, congrats to you on this gorgeous green Pick being POD today, hope you’re enjoying the day!! :)

  30. Lois D
    Lois D says:

It must have been quite the joy and adventure for your family to host international students! What fun! Would love to hear more of your stories.
We never had children of our own, so missed out on many of those opportunities. Our animnals became our ‘kids’ so to speak.

I love hearing everyone’s stories about their own ‘kids’, of the human AND animal variety LOL

@J Yee, I’ll try to upload some pics (I’m not to good at that kinda thing, but I’ll try :) ) We’ve loved having the sheep; they are such intelligent creatures despite the reputation they have earned :)

Thank you all so much for the conversation. I enjoy this beading ‘fellowship’. Now, if I could only figure out how to do that ‘request friend’ thing, I’d send one to all on LB!
