“In my heart...”

Description from J Yee smart chick: I did some testing this a.m. at a temp agency, and the woman who reviewed my results was very candid yet compassionate with me about my lack of office skills, esp with Word 2007 and Outlook. She suggested that I study up on it, and appreciated that I didn't claim proficiency. So I will be mostly studying over the next few days and part of next week, then go back to test on Word 2007, and retest on Outlook 2007. I thanked her for her straight forward feedback to me.

I spent this afternoon doing some tutorials that I found, and am feeling very humbled and glad of her honest feedback about the current state of the job market.

Beautiful pick. I hope the colors don’t represent too black of a mood. It’s great that you turned it into a learning experience. Stay positive :)

I got tested at a temp agency too! I was fine with the word and powerpoint and had never used outlook or access. However they loved my accuracy on the numeric keyboard. I at least excelled in one area. They wanted to know how I did it, and I told them were had to practice entering in phone numbers on the calulator and I got really good at it. Practice makes perfect! You can do this!

Many thanks for all of your good wishes, I have found some internet sites that were OK. In addition, I found some books, and will focus more on those, since I know someone has checked them for accuracy, vs. websites. So fascinating to see how differently authors write about these programs and arrange the info, I keep having to move around cuz my mind thinks differently about info – like wanting books or websites to go thru each “tab” on the sreen for a given program – that is, Word 2007, since I think visually. Oh well, I am glad I found some library books that seem pretty OK, including two from the “dummies” series, one for Word, the other for Outlook. :)

Alice and Lynn, many thanks again, how did I miss this bein’ one of the Picks of the Week???

This past week has been busy again, I got a call from a recruiter at another temp agency that I had sent my resume into, earlier in the summer – a company is looking for someone to take their admin person’s place while she is on maternity leave, and they want applicants to be proficient in Word, Outlook and Excel 2007, so I spent a couple of days studying again, tested on Wednesday, and now am waiting to hear back from the recruiter about whether or not they will interview the interested applicants. The job is intimidating, requires someone who can produce documents and convert formats from one program to another, and reformat. It’s full time, w/ possibility of overtime some weeks when the engineers are really busy.

I also applied for another temp opening at an agency I have worked on-call at for a long time – very different kind of opening, much more along what I am looking for, helping departments at the agency implement goals they have for making programs more anti-racist – and working with HR – this one lasts till end of this year, depending on funding, and while it pays less than the previous one, and is 30 hours/week, is much more the kind of work I am looking for!
