Description from EPBCornell: I'm not Catholic and have never prayed the rosary, but I have been fascinated with prayer beads and rosaries, especially loving the abbreviated 11 bead single decade Irish rosaries from the times of Catholic persecution, that could be easily concealed in one's pocket. With a cross or crucifix on one end, a space, large bead, another space, ten smaller, lesser-spaced beads, and connection to a ring on the other end, the pattern of elements (including the longer spaces) from cross thru beads each represent a passage to pray, which may be a different variant depending on the day of the week in a time of the Christian calendar.
I tried putting together a couple of options here, which could be made with chain links or Tuff Cord, perhaps using frankincense beads for spacers, with or without knots. Round beads were selected with metaphysical properties conducive to prayer in mind. The pyrite ring is also available in 20mm size if making the rosary for handling by more delicate fingers than mine.

Creel U says:I love making these. Also called “tenner,” “zehner,” or single decade rosaries.

dolllady aka Pam says:I love the idea of these rosary, aka prayer beads for Protestants. I love making rosaries for my Catholic friends. I have been trying to design a prayer bead design for my Protestant support group. This would be perfect.

MH says:Very interesting. I would just use the wire to make the links but I’m not Catholic either. However, years ago I went with friends to a Catholic service and got to hear the rosary (I want to say nearly sung?) by the priest in Latin. It took my breath away ‘though I didn’t have a clue what it was ’till I later heard it in English.

Calvins Valet says:I was a Catholic or most of my life and have fond memories of those – so pretty and perfectly sized for my cousin Maura & I! I also vividly recall a man in a pub in Ireland telling the story of them, tears in his eyes – and the next day my friend’s Mum snorting and saying he wouldn’t be able to say the rosary if pressed :;) I love the thought you put into stone choices, they’re wonderful!
