“MISSING.......38 hours!!!!!!”

Description from KPJEWELS: I have a Tortoiseshell cat who is 17-1/2 years old and she is TOTALLY BLIND. When she goes outdoors, someone has to go with her. I put her out on the front deck with barricades all the way around her on Tuesday afternoon because she likes to sleep out there in the shade on nice days. I was sitting in the living room about 2 feet away from her, beading and she disappeared off the deck. How, I don't know, but the whole family spent the remainder of the day and evening looking for her, to no avail. On Wednesday, we did the same thing and I did an awful lot of praying that she would be okay. I couldn't sleep Wednesday night so I was playing on the computer at around 4:00 a.m. when I heard a noise at the front door. I cautiously opened it to find her standing there meowing and looking up at me as if to say, "Hi, Mom, I'm home". I was so excited that I picked her up and hugged her but couldn't share my joy with anyone because everyone was sleeping. LOL. God works in mysterious ways.

I’m so happy that your cat is back home 3K Chick!! If my dog was missing, I know I would be hysterical. Forunately, He’s right here next to me snoring loudly!! Love the sunstone beads you chose.

Oh, Evelyn, how terrified you must have been for your fur baby!!! If only she could talk and tell you what happened….. I’m so happy God was watching out for her and guided her back home to you. I have to admit, I probably would’ve woken up the neighborhood with my shouts of joy!!! :D

Our almost 12-yr-old toy poodle, Shelby, lost her hearing a year ago. Bob & I worry that something could happen to her because if she wandered off, she wouldn’t hear us calling her name. Also, she wouldn’t hear traffic noises, etc. So we always keep her on a leash now when we’re outdoors, just in case. We had her micro-chipped right after we adopted her 5 years ago and she always wears ID tags, but that’s no guarantee against cars, etc.

Do you suppose AquaKitty helped bring your kitty back home? Just wondering….. ;-) I did notice he snuck himself into your beautiful pick, Evelyn!!!

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks, Lynn and Fashion Chick. I was sick with worry because I’ve never left her alone outdoors because she gets very confused and agitated if she gets herself turned around and doesn’t know quite where she is or in what direction she should go. Believe me Lynn, I had a hard time keeping quiet. LOL My biggest worry was about her not being able to hunt for food. She can always find water but can’t catch her dinner anymore.

    KPJEWELS says:

Oops, forget to mention that I think I will join her for some shuteye. Talk to y’all tomorrow maybe. Trying to get ready for my first craft fair this fall.

    KPJEWELS says:

I thought of you when I put AQK in the pick, Lynn. LOL. Gram, my kitty, lost her eyesight last summer but she has never disappeared on me before and I wasn’t sure how she was going to make out because there is a tomcat next door who likes to sneak up on her from behind. I usually throw my slipper at him when I catch him. LOL. It must be hard with your Shelby. I can relate because I’m very hard of hearing also.

It’s so funny — we still talk to Shelby all the time, just like before. Maybe it makes us feel better. Bob & I both have said we feel so sad for her, but she doesn’t seem bothered by it. The only difference we notice is that she has become a “velcro dog” — she wants to stick to us wherever we are in the house. Guess that’s because she can’t hear what we’re doing if we go into another room. Bob will still call to her to go outside and I tell him he’s being silly because she can’t hear him. Sometimes he doesn’t say anything and other times he tells me that he knows, but keeps hoping that just maybe……

3K Chick, I am so happy to hear that Gram came back and wasn’t hurt! I’ll bet she went straight to her food and water bowl! My Misha is a house cat, but she sneaked outside one friday when I still lived in Denver – and I had come down to cotopaxi for the weekend. I couldn’t find her in the house when I got back – I thought she was hiding on me because she was miffed that I left. After not finding her in her usual hiding places, I checked the garage attached to my back porch – and there she was, hiding in a corner, meowing pitifully. I was horrified. got her into the house, and she headed straight for her water bowl and didn’t come up for air for 10 minutes!

I’m so glad your kitty cat turned up! She probably had herself a little adventure while you were imagining the worst!
One of mine likes to stay out at night but is always waiting by the backdoor for his breakfast in the morning. One morning he wasn’t there & of course I started to fear the worst. He eventually turned up bang on 12 noon indignantly miaowing for his lunch. He must have found somewhere cosy to sleep & fancied a lie~in that day! :)
    Beautiful pick :)

*so* glad your puss came home! We used to have a great cat named Gilligan, and when he was very old, he went blind too. We had to give him canned mackerel to eat because he could find it by the smell! He lived in San Diego with my brother and SIL, and he used to love sitting out in the sun on the patio, his face lifted to the bask in the warm rays.

I can imagine you wanted to squeeze the stuffing out of Gram and shout from the rooftops when she appeared!

This is a great pick for your tortoiseshell kitty. I’m so happy that God looked out for him and brought him home safely. We currently have 2 cats, and recently lost our oldest, Katie. She was strictly a house cat, but got out one day. Scared us to death! We scoured the neighborhood, could not find her, and of course anticipated the worst. But we were lucky as well, and she arrived home in the middle of the night meowing like crazy. She had a little lump on her head, and was all greasy, so heaven only knows where she was, but other than that she was fine. She showed no inclination to go outside after that, however!

So very glad your kitty made it home again Evelyn. Big hugs!!! :-)
Our fur babies are so dear to us, and really do become part of the family. I was surprised how many of us have had one go “missing” and then the happy return–Yes, me too. LOL ;)

    Btw. Very nice pick! :-)

    Valentine Chick says:

Oh my goodness! I’m glad your kitty is ok! We had a similar occurrance here too! When we moved into our new house we brought our kitties here to live with us. They are outside kitties and they were not fixed yet. Anyway, they both liked to wander and roam…Before their appt. to be fixed, Nora our black cat, took off for 10 DAYS! When she arrived home, she had a hurt paw. Actually, only part of her one paw. We think she got it caught in a trap somewhere and had to chew or rip loose to get home :( Very sad. But, 7 mo. later, she hobbles around pretty good. She only has 1 claw on that paw, but her hair grew well over it. We have seen her recently interested in hunting and running again. But her recovery was a looonng process :( But my daughter still loves her dearly!

Oh, I’m so glad there was a happy ending to this story!! You must be incredibly relieved! Maybe next time she goes out you should put her on a leash. LOL

  23. Bonnie R
    Bonnie R says:

Your kitty probably got the scent of something and followed her nose off of the porch. We have a cat who got hit by a car when she was 6 months old and now at 13 yers old I doubt that her sight is very good but her nose works real well. She goes hunting on her own all the time – even for the local rabbits. Cats are pretty resilient, they use their other sences when one goes away.

3K, what a very gorgeous Pick of blacks, oranges and the sweet Green Girl pewter, I’m sooo glad to hear your dear kitty came back home!!!
Your story makes me think of my younger kitty, a tortoiseshell w/ white – she vanished twice when she was alive, once for several months when we lived in nw Florida, then for a week when I had just moved to another place in Seattle. Each time she came back, and I was sooo relieved like you are… what a sweetie, totally blind but she found her way back, lil’ rascal!!! Thank you everyone else for such touching stories about your own cats and dogs… our fuzzy companions sure do have their ways of wandering off, then reappearing suddenly, whew…

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks everyone for all your comments and stories about your pets. I’ve never had this happen to any of my pets before so I’m some glad she came back. Thanks again. She doesn’t get out of my sight now. LOL

    KPJEWELS says:

Someone always goes out with her now while she wanders around the neighbourhood. We tried a harness and leash but she hates it and just lays down as soon as we take her out with it on. She usually lays at my feet or on my bed when she’s in the house now. LOL. Being so old, she sleeps a lot also, but she still loves the outdoors.

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks FGC. The Lord answered my prayers.

Glad the “cat came back”! In quotes because of an old folk song about a cat who KEPT coming back.

ALSO…a GORGEOUS pick!!! LOVE the black leopardskin with the hessonite and amber chips.

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks Debra, I remember that song of years ago. Now, we’re dating ourselves. LOL.

I’m so happy that your baby made it back home safely…Don’t you wish she could tell you about her adventure? This pick reminds me of October colors, just love it! I would love to make something using these stones.

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks, Donna. I thought the same thing, “if only I could read your mind”.
I thought of putting the black leoparskin and the hessonite together. That black leopardskin is a gorgeous bead.

  34. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

I’ve often wondered what Shelby would say if she could talk AND what her voice would sound like. :D

Don’t tell anyone I told you this, Evelyn, but sometimes I talk “for” Shelby, using what I think would be her voice. Don’t let this get out….. LOL

  35. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

I used to do the same for our late toy poodle, Angel. She had a different voice, though….. Don’t share this info, either…. ;-)

Lynn, you sound like my daughter, talking to cats, talking for cats…he he.

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks eveyone for the comments. You are all too funny. LOL

    KPJEWELS says:

I finally found a picture of my kitty that went missing. Notice her green eyes. They became this colour after she went blind. She has cataracts.

  40. Regina v
    Regina v says:

What a pretty kitty girl! You must have been a wreck. Glad she came home. Must have been a rough day and a half.

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks, Regina, it certainly was hard on the nerves. I could imagine the worst happening to her. She’s just like a kid. When she goes out a door or down a step, it’s like talking to a kid, “Watch your step, watch your step.” It’s amazing what she has caught onto when I talk to her. She follows me like a puppy through the house. Outdoors, I follow her around (LOL) so I don’t lose her again.

  42. Valentine Chick
    Valentine Chick says:

OMG 3KChick! Your kitty looks exactly like my daughter’s first kitty named Kelly!! I can’t wait to show her your picture! Unfortunately, Jada’s Kelly kitty ran away :( I’m glad yours is back and ok!

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks Jen. She’s been around a long time and is more like a kid. I’ve been so careful with her since she became blind a year ago but she slipped away completely unnoticed the other day but it won’t happen again. It was almost as bad as losing one of my kids. I don’t know what I would do without her. Sorry to hear Jada lost her kitty. Did she ever get another kitty?

  44. Valentine Chick
    Valentine Chick says:

Oh my yes. We have had several since then. Now we have two. Nora and Snoops. They are quite comical!

    KPJEWELS says:

I’m getting too old to get any more. I guess I need some freedom after she is gone, which I hope won’t be for a long time, but who knows. Between dependent children (young adults, actually), grandchildren and pets, I think it is time for a break after she is gone. Mind you, I love them all very much but I’m supposed to be a grandmother and grandmothers aren’t supposed to have that much reponsibility after they retire (or are they) LOL

  47. Kathryn Lobert
    Kathryn Lobert says:

I am so glad you got your kitty back! That is just such a sad feeling when they are who knows where. I am a grandma too and I do understand “not supposed to have that much responsibility” any more, but my grandkids live far away, so my cats are something to hold when I am not with the kids. And when I get home from a trip to visit the kids/grandkids, I have the pitter patter of 16 little paws within 2 feet of me for several days:)

  48. Kathryn Lobert
    Kathryn Lobert says:

Well, for heaven’s sakes, I got so engrossed in the kitty stories that I forgot to say how much I love this pick. That black leopardskin jasper must makes such stunning pieces and I love what you have chosen with it!

    KPJEWELS says:

Thanks Kathryn. You have 4 cats?? I wish my kids were far enough away sometimes that I could visit them once in a while but no such luck, they have stuck to me like glue. LOL. I love that black leopardskin, it goes with so many different colours. It is gorgeoua as are all of Lima’s beads.

  50. Valentine Chick
    Valentine Chick says:

Jada says: Wow I bet your kitty won’t leave home for a long time probably not ever again! My kitty Kelly was from a farm and when I was only 4 years old I decided I wanted a kitty and that very day we went out in search of a kitty for me so me,my two grandmas, my two aunts, and ofcourse my mom went to a Humane society and every where else possible and then my aunt relized that one of her students lived on a farm and their cat had kittens so we went there and I got Kelly!! But about 2 months later she had kittens! But when the kittens were old enough to eat cat food I had a choice to make keep one of the 3 kittens or keep Kelly! So, I decided to keep Precious one of Kelly’s kittens. Precious’ brothers had to go to the humane society and before we could take Kelly, she ran away. In third grade, around Halloween Precious was going to hunt some mice and got hit on the road. :( Then, I got a new kitty named Sabrina. She got hit by the Sears repairman in my Grandpa’s driveway. For Christmas, Santa brought me my new cat Nora. Months later, Nora had kittens and she had Snoops my second cat. I love kitties as you can see.

  51. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Jen, I don’t know how to break this to you, but Kelly has been living all this time in Canada with Evelyn under the assumed name “Gram”! ROTFLOL

  52. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Oh, Jen, and the reason Kelly moved to Canada and changed her name to “Gram” is because you were going to take her to the Humane Society and keep her younger, more desirable daughter instead. ;-)

  53. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

But, as life would have it, in a cruel twist of ironic fate, the cat you chose to keep was run down in the prime of her life and Kelly aka Gram is still living happily in Canada with Evelyn. The End.

BTW, Kelly didn’t know how to drive a car, did she? Oh, that would be toooooo cruel…… LOL

    KPJEWELS says:

Lynn, I don’t know why you don’t put all this silliness into book form. Wouldn’t it be hilarious. You are too funny, girl. I’m sure if someone put all the silly comments on this site into book form, they could make a fortune. Now, there’s an idea, I could become rich and be able to buy more beads. LOL.

  55. Lynn Eileen Chicky LE
    Lynn Eileen Chicky LE says:

Hey, you sure could, Evelyn!!! Great idea! You could call it “The Best of the LB Chicks” or “LB’s Greatest Hits”! ;-)

    KPJEWELS says:

Now that sounds like a great idea, Lynn. Now I’ve even got a title before I write. He, he!!
